Digital Vs. Physical

Discus and support Digital Vs. Physical in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; Physical is way cheaper and you'll get money back as well when your finished. Good thing it only takes like 5 seconds to change a disc.... Discussion in 'XBoX on Consoles' started by brandiesel1, May 16, 2015.

    Digital Vs Physical

I put this on another thread, but just make DLC preorder bonuses on Digital and make physical game only.

No Tohellnbak, if that was the case, to recoup money from an already Pressed disc, (not burned, that implies something else) then the physical would have to be dearer. and digital cheaper, as there is no extras with physical and all money goes to publisher
    and games console manufacturer

    -

    but that is the paradox.

    -

While physical games are cheaper to buy, people will buy them, and not go digital. Because everybody is concerned about their money.

    -

The only way to remove physical discs, is to actually make them lower at start and keep them under the physical price even by $1 to make digital seem more attractive

Not always. I have saved a lot money via digital deals. Saints Row 4 with all the dlc for only 13 bucks. Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen for 7 bucks. Tales of Xillia for Ten and Tales of Symphonia HD for ten bucks. Heck, at one point they had Darksiders 2 with
all the dlc for only 15 bucks.

I always buy physical games accept for arcade games and some titles that were digital only. Now when i buy XBOX ONE i would love to go digital only but the problems i have with it are:not fast enough internet, hdd gets filled quickly and i still love limited
editions of some games. So i will probably stick with physical games.

wether you buy disc or digital on the xbox one the game still requires the same size install,so your not saving any HDD space by having a disc

  7. Wait, I misspelled a word? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

    *ahem* Where was I? Oh.

My entire collection of games on the Xbox One is entirely digital. Thanks to numerous purchases, the Games with Gold and EA Access promotions, and free to play games my entire collection of ~60 games is digital - with 1 exception. That exception is Forza
Horizon 2, which I won in a random drawing through Microsoft.

1 thing I can tell you is that I absolute love the instant-switching! Being able to use my Kinect and say, "Xbox, go to [insert game name or app here]" at any time is a marvelous and very quick experience. I, however, can't do that with Forza Horizon 2 (well,
technically, I can, but I'd then be prompted to put the disc in) and as a result, I hardly ever play it (there are more reasons than just that, but it's the chief reason).

Sure, you can sell your used games back to the store, and that's awesome! However, in my experience, you get diddly squat for it (if it's old enough, we're talking less than $5 per game). Sure, you can beat a game quickly and sell it back while it's still
relatively new, but for me, I'd rather not feel rushed - I like taking my time with games. So, I personally prefer to avoid the trip into and out of town for a meager pittance.

While some people in this thread are saying that digital isn't going down in price, they're only half right. Digital does get cheaper over time, but it's not as quick as physical, at least on the Xbox One. On Microsoft's console, you have to often wait for
a game to be added to their daily or weekly deals or Games with Gold or Deals with Gold promotions (and if the name wasn't obvious enough already, you need a Gold subscription to take advantage of those promotions), and that usually won't happen for 6 months
to a year, whereas with physical you'll be waiting maybe half that time, if not sooner.

As much as I like MS, even I can admit that they're pretty crude when it comes to pricing, since other online digital retailers for PC are making a killing, such as Steam. For example, my brother was looking at some Humble Bundle (if you don't know what
that is, it's worth Googling) deals yesterday and 1 of the games that is available on the Xbox One was available as a a part of their bundles (I believe it was Pier Solar, if i recall). My brother said the bundle, with about 5 or 6 games, was only $8 at most.
So, I looked up the game on Xbox Live only to find that it was $15 all by itself - almost twice the price as the Humble Bundle!

Still, I think that's the price of convenience that we all seem to be paying for, however small it is. Sadly, if you don't have or don't use a Kinect sensor, you don't even get to have that convenience... Digital Vs. Physical :(

  9. "Would a price drop for digital be the fair thing to do?"

I remember when this digital things was being talked up and they pointed out better prices for consumers. They need to push that. $50 day one digital. They basically eliminate used sales for the people that buy digital. The people that are physical only
will stay that way. But it would reduce the number of physical they had to prepare.

I am mostly physical. Unless it is a game that I want to play with family. With Halo and Gears we used to purchase 4 physical copies. Everybody played and with the hours we played it was worth is. But, the best option really was digital. Buy 1 on my
account on one 360 my wife could play there and I could play on my 360. Then buy a copy for one of my sons on another 360. That 360 could be used for that game by my other 2 sons while the son I purchased the game for used it on his. That way we could all
play together. With only 2 copies purchased. It reduced the price from 4 games at $60 if we purchased new to 2 at $60. Saving of half. And it also meant we played more games.

Take Black Ops 3. One of my sons loves the zombies mode and has friends that play it with him a bunch. I will get that for him on his home console. Then he will play it on his other console. That will allow all the rest of us who may want to try it to
play it a little. No sales lost for the devs and publishers because we would not have purchased another anyway. But it does mean we have a digital game that will not end up being sold used. A win for both.

Really I am more mixed on the issue. In some ways it is cheaper for me. At other times it is not. I would love to go digital for $45 for a single player game that is just for myself or one of my sons instead of physical (I can almost always get at lest
$15 back later for physical). I am more inclined to pay $60 for something that will be shared. The next Gears will be 2 digital copies at full price so that 4 of us can play. Basically like $30 each.

Then again I guess I should not be so cheap. The price of gaming is down. I remember what I paid for my NES games. Delivering newspapers during the summer and odd jobs after school in the winter when I lived in Ohio when I was young. I remember buying
Metroid new and even the crap that was Baseball (one of my worst purchases ever). Not much cheaper than now in terms of $$ but much more expensive than now considering the purchasing power of that money. And I paid a bunch for an SNES after doing farm work
all summer and fall (actually had that at launch). So gaming is not that bad price wise. Not to mention the vastly increased cost of making games. As well as the amount of content you get in many games.

GG, you don't play Forza 2 because you have to put a disc in? Even if you only get a few dollars for a trade in its still better than nothing. I bout Ryse new and beat it in 7 hours. I traded it in and got 45 for it. If I bought it digitally I'd be ***.

    $45 but not in cash.

$45 that will go back to game retailer pocket, same as the game that will be resold, for more profit.

I don't care what they do with the 45. I used it towards a new game. If I wanted cash they would have gave me 35 which is still better than 0.

    Digital Vs. Physical

I have mostly all hard copies for XBone. I like digital and have a few digital editions but I have shy'd away from digital because I have a nasty Internet provider that likes to charge extra if extra bandwidth is used. There is not any competition here in
Canada, especially in smaller towns. While only being allowed 60g per month, it doesn't take long to go over considering the size of a lot of these new games.

Really looking forward to The Witcher on XBone . If we get what we have seen in the previews it

should be outstanding! Have had my hard copy pre-ordered for almost 18 months now.

Ouch, capped bandwidth has to be annoying. I don't blame you for staying with discs. There have only been 2 games that I bought digitally and paid full price excluding arcade games. The Wither 3 for €62.99 and Super Mario 3D World for €59.99. I'm trying
not to do it anymore though. I hate knowing I'm stuck with them.

Digital you don't need the disc, but you have to download the game off Xbox Live which can be slow if you don't have VDSL or Fibre Broadband. Another downfall is XBL has been subject to a couple denial of service attacks as well which has affected core services
like friends list, the ability to sign in, and downloads failing or taking abnormally long.

Disc it's physical, it's yours, no usage restrictions which Microsoft implies on Xbox 360 and Xbox 1, comes with case and disc, you can hug it, kiss it, do what ever you want with it, put it in front or your window, wave it around town saying "I have this
game". Just kidding. The downfalls is the disc has to be in the console to play, and the consoles disc drive must be working properly, and able to read the disc. Peps who loose the disc or damage it or leave it out of the case to get dirty may throw a tantrum
when the console can't read it, but unlike Xbox 360 DVD discs, Xbox 1 BLU-RAY discs are a bit more durable and have a higher storage capacity to DVDs.

I usually get a mix. I have Minecraft, Zoo Tycoon, and several other games brought digitally.

Another advantage with digital is retailers in your country for example for those of us who live outside the US, may not sell the game, or their stores are only open 9-5. XBL has it, saves you the trip or waiting for it to be couriered to you. But... disc
versions tend to be cheaper than digital. What's up with that? (this is a rhetorical question). There's no cost to ship it to retailers, no packaging costs. It may be more eco friendly too without the plastic and paper with disc versions. But everything digital
goes through Xbox Live. Retailers have competition. But since Xbox Live is the ONLY official online service for Xbox 360 and Xbox 1, it's like there's no competition or something. Well that's my take on it.
