  1. Digital vs Disc - Discussion

I do both. As of now there is no difference to me. When convenient I buy digital solely because I do not want to go anywhere. Now I also buy the digital games that are not on disc just because I want to try them all.

But for big titles I go disc. A store 20 miles from me is doing a midnight thief release. So that will be a disc for me as well.

Current DISC Xbox 1 games: COD Ghosts, BF4, Forza 5, NFS Rivals.

Current DIGITAL Xbox 1 games: Zoo Tycoon, PowerStar Golf, Kinect Sports Rivals PreSeason.

The major cons with DIGITAL is that you don't OWN the PYSICAL aspect of the game like disc cases etc, Xbox 1 games have a larger file download size compared to 360 (especially for those of us who live in households with a monthly data limit and ADSL Broadband
(fibre optic is better but more expensive)). I'll choose to get some games digitally like Minecraft when it comes out and have got Zoo Tycoon digitally cuz those would be the games I play most on Xbox 1 so don't want the hassle of getting up to switch discs
then there's the issue if the console can read it. Especially in 360's case which use DVD's many peps leave their discs out of the case (it's an addictive habit) even if there's a tiny smudge or dust with some discs the console will probably say "nah won't
read that". Get out a micro-fibre cloth and all should be good.

    .

It's true both have their pros and cons but Xbox 1 ISNT an "all in one entertainment" thing WITHOUT a disc drive - FACT. There will be peps who want to play their Blu-rays (a tech which is still widely accepted) and DVDs. I will only get games digitally
if I really love that game and the download size isn't off-the-scale. I wouldn't want to try downloading Forza (30GB+) COD and BF4 (40GB) @ ADSL Broadband speeds.

I dont own one Disc this gen and i love it.AC4 Forza5 BF4 and recently purchased on sale in the store Ryse:SOS. Seemless swapping off games and i can still be watching a Bluray movie and switch straight to a game the way the X1 was intended. No regrets.

I'll be going physical until, if and when there's games for gold on the X1, if it's free, then it's going to be an older, or less popular title (compared to mainstream AAA titles), so if I haven't already played it, or it wasn't on my radar to begin with,
the fact it's free makes a digital dl worthwhile for me.

I like having physical copies, it's just something I find gratifying. I keep games I feel are worthy, and trade old games when there are extra percentage trade incentives, or if they are a disappointment, towards a game I might not have had budgeted for.
Taking away the convenience factor of instant switching, I feel the ability to re-use physical copies in many different ways trumps a captive digital file. But please don't take that as me thinking those that have gone digital have chosen the wrong thing...
As everyone benefits from their choice in their own way.

I understand the pro's of switching seamlessly, but I really only focus on one game at a time, and my games aren't that far away that it's an issue. Plus the file sizes, and dl times just don't seem worthwhile to me.

Also, midnight releases are not my thing so much anymore... And if they are, it's an experience in itself that is sometimes worth it. And hey, over the life of the game, if you're not on immediately, what's a few minutes?

Enjoy your gaming whatever you choose.

I like both but buy more discs, the reason ? Price, discs are cheaper in most cases, and I can re sell or trade them in, I was looking at Rayman on the Xbox One this morning, not bad at £35, until you look at game or Asda, it's £25 on disc, it's a no brainer
really, I do have digital, but those are games like Peggle 2 and Halo SA and Strider, all OK for under £12

If that new Rayman game had been around £15 to £20 for the digital version I would have got it without question and I would be playing it now.

I want to go all digital but pricing is preventing me to do so. No way I am paying full price for a digital download.

  10. Disk all the way for me. I don't plan on trading in but I do like holding onto the disk cases. Kept behind a locked case disks safe and sound, and can jump ship when I feel like getting rid of friends.

I mostly go with disc. Never worry about losing/damaging a disc, as I have PS1 discs in perfect condition. I have/keep about 6 games for every console I have (Except the X1 and PS4.). Games like Final Fantasy, Fallout, ect., will always be available to me.
Discs will keep some value AND with certain games actually go up; Uncharted Waters: New Horizons for the SNES sold for $247.50 a couple years ago, and I only paid about $50.00 for it.

Games I won't play for long, maps, add-on s, etc., will be digital if the price is right or are not

    available on disc.

Now if the internet structure of the U.S. GREATLY improved AND I could legally make backup copies of my digital purchases...I may rethink my position. Getting a "discount" on digital doesn't factor in for me; I want ownership.

Options are nice. Disc and digital both have their pros and cons. For me, the pros of discs outweigh the benefits of digital at this time.

    Peace, J.R.

  12. I'm going all digital. I love the convenience of switching between games and not having to worry about scratching the disc. Discounts will eventually come, as we've seen with Ryse. In my honest opinion, digital games should already be at least $10 cheaper.
Also, they should make digital games available maybe 2 weeks before retail, that way more people would be willing to steer away from discs. But until something is created where I can rent games online, I will still use Gamefly to play games I won't buy.

I like digital over-all more. Would only mess with disc if the game wasn't on the Xbox Store yet or if someone bought it for me.

As for those that says "not doing digital with only 500GB of space!" Don't you have to install the game on Xbox One even if it's the disc?

Indeed you do have to install. But it is a lot quicker for most people to reinstall from a disc than it is to download a game again.

  15. Correct VoteDc. And it doesn't hurt your Bandwidth, if you are capped, to just get the disc and re-install it.

    Again, it's horses for courses.

And Disc Version of games still account for the majority of Launch day purchases
