Hello everyone Digital v physical media :)

So basically, all games will now require a " Day 1 Patch " because the basic version of the physical media won't work properly without it?

The Xbox 360 games didn't need such a thing as the physical media would function without a " Day 1 Patch " at all.

Can someone please explain this to me?

Have a nice day or afternoon or night everyone Digital v physical media :)

  2. wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble.....

I am having visions of days gone by when all games were released fully working and tested....... Sorry Lei Fang

But we live in the day and age now, when a lot of people, (The time of Generation Y - The internet has made a lot of people inpatient) want their games as soon as possible, and publishers and developers use us as guinea pigs for testing. Saving them a lot
    of money on Q&A Testing.

If there was to be some sort of consensus from a governing body, that all games must meet a required finished state, and be completable without a Update, But those days are way, way, way gone....

Games are far more complicated in this day and age, and peoples expections change, bringing out a perfect launch game must be near on impossible.

Hello "HairyLoveSpuds" and "EnenDaveyBoy" Digital v physical media :)

I am not looking for a game to be absolutely perfect and flawless because that would be impossible, just that they can be played WITHOUT any day 1 patch update.

Have a nice day or afternoon or night Digital v physical media :)

@Blue then just make the physical game online activation is not that hard, if you if they wanted to there are options was my point, but of cause it wouldn't please everyone.

@Lei, maybe the file sizes wouldn't fit on the disk, so a patch is one way to obtain the info, instead of adding additional disks and cost (just speculation)

  6. I think that instead of massive day one patches that developers should relearn file compression.

It'll be a hell of a lot quicker for most folk to install a compressed game than it would to install and then download 20gb.

@Vaynel, some files are already compressed so addition additional compression won't help, a Single layer disks hold 25 GB, based on that a download is necessary, with the Halo MCC even a dual layer blue layer doesn't have enough room for it all.

From my understanding, the downloads and physical files are compressed and ucompressed on installation but I could be wrong.

The more complex people want stuff the bigger the file size.

Yes, Evan, i agree, but bringing out game after game after game of glitchy, messy, half content, and completely non-tested games should be a no no.

You should not need a day 1, 2, 3, or even a forth patch, just so your save games work correctly, or some characters are nude, or people fall through the landscape, or etc, etc, etc, etc.......

These games should be tested correctly before release, instead of rushed on to the shelves, so publishers can re-coup their budget.

A released game should be complete, completeable, and hassle free the moment you put the disc in, or run your digital version. If a patch is needed, it should be to iron out any minor issues, nothing more.

And don't get me started on Halo MCC, it should be on 2 discs for physical adoptors, it is sheer laziness and penny pinching that has seen the begginning of the....... Oh we filled up one disc, but we'll make the rest downloadable. For those on data caps,
and slow internet, it will be murder.

  9. Some files not all is the thing. Decompress the entire thing when you install it, take up the space on a hard drive and not the disc.

The 'how does he get away with that gamertag' guy above me is right. Patches should be used to fix issues that were missed or found after the game went gold. They shouldn't be a way to deliver half the game.

  11. @Galactic Geek - Retailers like GS/EB, distributors in general and idiot consumers. Back in the olden days Digital v physical media ;) When game carts cost a tonne here and came out months later, People like me imported consoles and games from Japan or the U.S. where as others would
wait for the games to appear and pay premium prices. I think it was more of a cult then a hobby and people took advantage of this. Simply put there is no reason to pay what we do, it's just that consumers are willing to.

  12. You too Redeye.... I remember paying neary £90 for Pop'N'Twinbee on the Snes for a *** Version

I can't believe it censored the short version of Japanese...... Really Microsoft... That's extreme

    @ Vaynel, completely agree.

Publishing huge downloads just to add content on Day 1, that should have been there in the first place should be a no, no.

Also on a side note..... I have had the Gamertag and the same on PS for many, many years.

    I am Hairy

    I love Potatoes

Being half Irish, My Mums side Murphy and my English side is Edwards. I was always going to love Potatoes.... I could have been a hobbit....

    Potatoes................... for life

At least my ps4 gives update descriptions/fixes of any patches installed when i press the options button over the game icon. Xbox one needs this simple feature that ps4 has. Microsoft are treating physical users so bad. If the day one patches are for more
than just minor issues I won't buy the games, simple. I've passed on lots of games i would have bought this generation already. You don't see any Nintendo games with issues. Their games are polished and tested to perfection before release. Perhaps they have
more respect for their brand and their customers. I sick of having to do research to see if these next generation games are even playable without these day one updates. If this continues I'll end up selling my xbox one. These patched are killing next gen gaming.
Microsoft are partly to blame as their giving developers the ability to patch as much as they want. Microsoft you put a Blu-Ray drive on this box, improve this please or I'll sell my xbox one. None of my ps4 games need updates as big as my Xbone. At least
I know what the game updates are for (fix) on my ps4. For the reasons iv listed iv now started buying all of my multiplatform titles on ps4. Microsoft should understand people are really not happy about this and should understand it's effecting their sales.
I want the finished game on disc not part of the game, not a buggy, glitchy mess. THE FULL GAME I PAID FOR. Telling me at E3 that Forza 5 tracks were FREE was rubbish. The game was sold unfinished.

  15. Twinbee? I Got Detana Twinbee for the saturn, I loved the Twinbee series.

Xb1 is over the top with patches, I agree. But to be honest, A year later the XB1 feels like Xbox again so I care less.
