Is there a difference in size between digital and Retail games?

I'm hoping that Xbox will hopefully soon have preload/Preorder ability on Xbox one but I don't know if there is a size difference between the digital and retail product,

My dad said I'm not going to start filling my xbox one with digital games If they fill up my HDD but he never grew up with videogames or electronics so I think I would buy some games Digital and some games disc based, plus I sometimes trade in my games or
sell them afterwards when I'm done with them and I can't get rid of digital games other than like discs

I like the idea of preload and preorder ability on Xbox one but I don't know how long til MS would put it in.

    :)

XBLA,Games on Demand -Are you kidding me?

It would help the push to go completely digital if they'd release the GoD version of the game close to or at the same time as a retail release. Maybe it's because of the sheer size of Forza 3 & 4? Maybe they can't fit it into the GoD slot?

    Full retail download size!

There is no way NBA2K14 will be a 60GB download. That is what is know as covering ones backside. Some games will rock up closer to 50GBs this generation though, no question. On the PS4 we hear tell that Killzone is nearing a 50GB file, and if games are using
bigger, more detailed and just plain more texture maps then yes, game files can become HUGE pretty rapidly. But I look at top line PC releases that have multipe texture file blocks and other duplicated assets that only just scratch over 30GBs and think it
is just massively unlikely that over night we'll see all games starting to rock in at 50GB.

    .

Also just for those interested Blu-ray disc layers come in 25GB layers. So a 2 layer disc is 50GBs and a triple layer disc 75GBs and so on and so forth. I believe the maximum currently achieced is a 16 layer disc that rocks in at 400GBs. But I'm not sure
standard Blu-ray drives support up to that many layers, I personally thought 4 layers was the basic standard required. Could be wrong though, I've not kept up to date with the BRDA stuff.

If you're into selling/trading your games when done, then surely you'd want to stick with discs whenever you could, right?

  7. From what I am learning about the X1. Even if you buy discs you have to upload them to the HDD in order to play them.

If that's not true then by all means X1 owners, correct me.

Which means that the 500 GB HDD that comes with the X1 will get filled quick. So if say, you want to keep your Games ready to play, while investing in other games to play, you'll either have to delete something, or buy an external HDD. Which serves no purpose
other than to drive up the costs to your console.

^^ You are correct in that they need to download information from the disc before playing, because the Blu Ray player can't read the information fast enough to display it on the screen.

I'm not sure how "fast" you plan on filling up a 500 GB hard drive. I've had my One since launch and still have 230 GB of space.

It's install, not "upload". External HDDs are inexpensive. Start with the stock 360GBish of space that comes with the console and upgrade as needed.

I don't know if there is a difference, but I was a little surprised when I bought the retail version of Dead Rising 3, put it into the console, and was prompted to download a 16 GB update. Maybe it's because I'm old school, but I miss being able to put the
game in, press start, and play. Now, I have to navigate menus, download updates, sign into Xbox Live... but I digress.

The other nice part about owning a disc is that you can bring it to a friend's house to play.

One of the luxuries of a digital age Ox is the ability to create fixes for bugs, problems etc on the fly. By a time a game goes "gold" and is mass produced for disc, there might have been some bugs and fixes made. Only way to get these into your game is
by a patch or or update. If it was years ago before this day and age.. if a game was broke... guess what.. it stayed broke

  12. I'm sure there'll be a way to give up rights to your digital games in exchange for credit to use in the Xbox Store, but that's probably in the distant future and it'll probably be a ripoff anyway.

Egg. X1's direct competitor (Forum gods want allow me to say it on here) don't need to do that.

I've played one in a rural home, and without any net services whatsoever.

X1's main rival's Blu Ray optics will run it's latest games without "installing" (Thanks Icestorm) the game to the HDD.

So if the X1's main competitor can play the latest, and newest games directly from the optical drive. Why can't the X1??

    Weird eh!
