Digital Downloads and Portable hard drives

Hello there.

I have never downloaded a game before and I'd like to know if I download them to my main console at home, when I go to my girlfriends house and play on my account there can I just redownload them to that console to play as if I took the disc, would I need
to purchase twice? Or constantly be downloading them to each console when ever I switch?

My other question is when I get a portable hard drive, can I just take that to my girlfriends aswell with the digital games on that and play or must it stay connected to my console at home.

All very confusing before splashing the cash lol.

No you can use portable hard drives, I have my 500 gig Western digital plugged in.

People have only been having problems with Seagate.

Western Digital drives work fine.

Mines a western digital. It's a WD elements 1TB USB 3.0 portable hard drive for Windows. There is a 2TB model available as well.

And yes you can transfer your digital games to the drive.

 

As long as you have your profile on the other console and are signed in on said console, everything should work ok.

 

Ok, we'll call your home console A and your girlfriends console B

You download a game on console A and play it, you then go to console B and sign in, you will have to re-download the game on console B to play it.

With a portable hard drive though, all you do is download the game onto the portable hard drive (think there is an option to transfer content from internal HDD to external HDD somewhere) play it on console A.

when you go to your girlfriends, plug in the hard drive and sign in, no need to re-download anything.
