Digital Download Rip-Off

This week Call of Duty Advanced Warfare was released. You can buy it on disc or via digital download. Microsoft and partners would like us all to go digital and there are consumer benefits.

So this week I had a choice. Download the new game via the store or go down to my local supermarket and pick up a disc. Obviously the supermarket has more costs. It has staff who sell me the product, it is in a box, it has to be transported, and it even
takes up valuable shelf space. The reverse is true of digital. Almost no cost to distribute and a small cost to store. Plus no middle man to share the profit.

Logically consumers should get a great discount if they go digital.

You would be wrong. The boxed supermarket game is £40. Digital download £54.

I guess Microsoft are sending the clear message. If you want to save money avoid the Xbox store. Strange promotion.

Digital Game Purchases

This just proves that digital downloads are a complete rip off as they have absolutely no resale value whatsoever

GOD is a rip off and always will be. God help gamers if the Next Gen is digital downloads only.

 

I wished Food Lion sold games where I live.

 

Physical is better. You get great deals while supporting your local economy.

While i agree that prices should be inline with outside retailers. In its main market which is the US, there is very little if any price difference between the two.

Outside the US, where our retailers seem to have a stronger grip on the concept of competition. It does not make sense to go digital. Today i have purchased on pre-order... (Thank you to my wife and kids, and friends for my birthday money) GTA 5, AC Unity,
Far Cry 4, and Dragon Age inquisition. All of which cost me £160, give or take a few pence. (Amazon have just dropped AC, and FC to £40 each)

On digital that would be £219.96, Which is a saving of £59.96. I re-couped the price of another game, after 3 purchases, So technically i got the 4th Game for nothing.

Personally i have nothing against the Digital Pricing of Xbox One games, as to me, That is the RRP. If a company wants to sell their games at those prices, let them, It's their store, Their Business, and their Shareholders, Because they are both closed stores.
But to me, if i am saving £10-£15 on one game, i will always stay with physical. Unless off course, the game is digital only, then you have no choice.
