Digital Download Cheaper?

So i read some where downloads will be cheaper? what aload of tosh! so lets look at Game and the download prices -

Thief - £49.99 download £47.99 Game

Plants vs Zombies - £34.79 download £ £29.99 Game

These are 2 games i wanted and you can get stuffed if im going to download them now, why so greedy Microsoft?

Anyway off to Game i go and with what i have saved might get a subway

XB1 Full Game Digital Downloads

I agree the digital downloads should be cheaper. It seems as though the opposite is taking place. All of the discounts seem to be on the physical disks. I have wondered if there have been sales problems with physical disks as more of us opt for the convenience of digital downloads. Why not offer discounts on the digital downloads to encourage people to give up on the disks and we can move away from disks completely? If it was $10-$15 cheaper for the downloads no one would care if you could resell the disk or not?

Just curious, why the $10 difference???

 

I intend to get a mixture of download and disc. The ones that I want for multiplayer I will download, those for single campaign as disc.

In order not to pay the higher digital price, I look for offers on the xbox live gift cards. The last 2 50£ ones I've brought for around 40£ each. This makes up for the price difference.

 

Yeah this is not good for people like myself that would prefer to go all digital

 

New releases will ALWAYS be the same.... at least for right now... let us fig this thread up in 2 years.... OK?

 

Its a shame that shops can't sell the digital download codes, so you buy them in a store cheaper than the MS store.

MS are wise to support other retails.

 

I didn't know Microsoft publish every game on Xbox....

Also i don't know why a digital version should be cheaper.Plastic box + plastic disc + a piece of paper =$1(maybe 1.50 max).

I pay € 60 for digital,or € 60 for disc + take my car to go the retailer + pay for parking....

For me,digital is cheaper.

 

It's actually publishers who control the prices and retailers who control their price depending on what deal they have with the publisher. Retailer could give away games if they wanted if meant getting you in the store or on their website.

Both the games you posted are not published by MS.

 

I don't people argue that digital should be cheaper per say, but they can't understand why they are so much more expensive.

The main reason, is shops don't sell the digital download codes for consoles (or very rarely), and i have no idea why.

I would love TF on DD, but the only place you can buy it is the MS store on XO, and its always going to be more expensive than buy it in a retail store.

 

@EnenDaveyBoy - Why would you need to buy a digital download code from a store? Isn't it the convenience of being being able to shop from your xbox or pc the major plus?? Kinda defeats the purpose if you're going outside of your home to go purchase a code
and then having to input it. I like clicking on a game I want in the xbox store and having it paid for and downloading in a matter of seconds.

 

The problem you have is MS need retailers to make the console and other accessories available.

If MS start putting their MS Store to beat retails in price, they will annoy one of the big sales avenues.

Lets say you want a MS headset but retailers stop selling them because they don't sell, now you have to wait for MS to send it, have to deal with MS to sort out issues, including sending it back to get replacements etc.

Take it one further retailers stop selling all Xbox products and you have to get everything from MS direct, that would be a disaster for MS, and the consumer.

I am not saying you should have to physically got to the shop, but why can't I buy digital download codes at retailers websites, and they email me the code or I pick the code up in store.

I am not even sure why other retailers don't have xbox apps to buy it within the xbox.

Plus the MS store bandwidth is rubbish.
