Digital Audio Question

Okay, thought I had this figured out but I guess not. I have a turtle beach with the DSS 7.1 surround sound processor connected to the X1 through optical. Is it better to set the optical audio on the x1 to stereo uncompressed or bitstream for use with my
headset? Bc any time it is set to bit stream, it crackles.

When will 5.1 via Optical Audio be available for Xbox One?

I have a related question that hopefully someone can fill me in on. I'm looking to buy my Xbox One this weekend, but my Receiver does not have HDMI inputs, just digital audio. I have a projector with HDMI, but obviously no audio through the projector,
so I'll have to take advantage of the digital audio until I shell out the money for a new receiver. I was on the site and there is conflicting info about the digital audio.

My question is: Do you need a TOSLink Optical audio cable? Or do you need an S/PDIF digital coax audio cable? The instructions to hookup mention both and I don't want to be sitting in my basement on Friday night with the wrong crap.

Xbox One Digital Audio hookup question

I'm looking to buy my Xbox One this weekend, but my Receiver does not have HDMI inputs, just digital audio. I have a projector with HDMI, but obviously no audio through the projector, so I'll have to take advantage of the digital audio until I shell out
the money for a new receiver. I was on the site and there is conflicting info about the digital audio.

My question is: Do you need a TOSLink Optical audio cable? Or do you need an S/PDIF digital coax audio cable? The instructions to hookup mention both and I don't want to be sitting in my basement on Friday night with the wrong crap.

Okay. A hard reset of the console APPEARS to have fixed the crackling. For now at least.

Thank you for your replies.

However my question is:

Netflix movies are encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

If i select Bitstream out, Dolby Digital format in Xbox One X settings, will this pass the Netflix audio unchanged?

Or will it be decoded and re-encoded before sending via bitstream to AV receiver?

If this is the case it may be better to send audio uncompressed PCM 5.1, AV receiver can handle it.

I have asked three Microsoft support agents this question, none have bern able to answer it.

I think i answered my own question... 🤦&#55356;�‍♂️ I restarted the console and went into the audio settings, selected Bitstream for Speaker Audio, then selected the Bitstream format (Dolby Digital). This made the setting stay after exiting the menu and then
returning.
