Difference between Console ID and serial number

So yesterday I got my console back from the repair center and all is fine. It went for a faulty disk drive and was told that the device would likely be repaired and not replaced. Once i did get it back I had to log in like it was a new console and now have
to reinstall all games and apps, which makes me think its a new console. In Checking the console details I see the serial number is the same as the one I sent away but my Console ID is different by a single digit.

Today (15.1.15) suport called me to check all was ok, and when I said I had to reinstall everything he thinks they sent me a new console. Only as helpful as he has been he didn't seem to be able to tell me for sure. Of is the ID numbers meant anything.

So whats the difference between the serial number and Console ID? Is it a new machine but with the same serial number or my old machine just wiped?

On a side note I was able to turn on the xbox with my old titanfall controller without having to sync in anyway. While not fussed about having a new console I'd just like to know what was done and if its a new one is it running on my old warranty (runs
out in March)

Console Serial Number and ID

If you don't have access to the console right now though, you won't be able to get the ID#. With your new console it's a great idea to record it, and register your console here on xbox.com.

not sure if they can, but you could try contacting Xbox Support, they might be able to see it.

 

Your warranty should be the remaining warranty time of your original console, or 95 days, whichever is longer.

I'm not 100% on this, but my best guess is that the console is the same with replaced hardware. The serial number is the same, and maybe they changed the console ID as a way to verify that it's a console that's been serviced/received new hardware.

I'm just guessing here, though. I remember when my 360 was replaced I was sent a new console and I'm pretty sure it had a new serial number.

 

This is one idea I had, its one digit difference which I guessed is to raids it's had this or that done.
