Didn't take them long!

I haven't actually timed it myself or even know what the speed is on my external HDD, but I'm mildly upset with it because every time I go into the my games and apps section, numerous game tiles don't show up quickly - for a few moments they're just blank
space, which is something I never saw before my internal HDD filled up...

The external you bought is actually as fast as the internal. The downside to using an external is what you're seeing. The OS looks there last for data and it will cause the delay. If you remember back to when PC's had floppy and 3.5 drives and as you booted
the computer you'd hear them spin, it's the same thing....it has a specific order when looking for data.

 

A complaint about the quick price drop quickly turned into a PS4 vs Xbox One argument. Eh, whatever, I'll bite.

Randver is right, we're all adults. I'm sure we can all admit that the X1 isn't without faults. If I had to choose between external vs internal, I'd choose internal. Why would I want to take up extra physical space when the X1 already takes up so much space
because it's the size of a VCR?

And with regards to Shareplay... I honestly see no reason for it. I haven't used it. I have no friends on PS4 lol. But if I did, then I can see it being a useful feature. If the X1 had it, I would ask a friend if I could try Sunset Overdrive or Lords of
the Fallen. But Shareplay itself isn't without faults either and it's highly dependent on the internet speeds of both parties involved. Also the framerate cap can really hurt the experience of some games.

 

Which is why Geek I keep all my currently played games also on the internal and remove/ import other games when needed. The internal is still my go to drive for playing from.

 

If your buying your games in disc form you are already using up way more space in your home than my External does tucked away in a Drawer with over 20 games on it so far.

I feel The X1 is being upgraded so earley in order to help boost sales, not only of the console, but of XBL, and exclusive titles as well. After all, price drops hasn,t had as big of an impact as some would have hoped.

As for internal vs external. HDD. Why not both? Make the internal user upgradable to whatever size and speed the user desires, as well as external. Add to that a much improved chipset/board/optical drive and the X1 could sell itself without ever spending
a dime on advertising.

Hindsight: An old man told me once. If you see/hear ads for a particular brand of an item more than you care to remember, then more often than not its an item/brand you would want to avoid. Word of mouth. He said, is the very best way to gauge an items,
or a particular brands worth.

I have learned, often the hard way over the years. He was 100% correct.

 

What you're seeing here is a push for console domination. This generation has seen both sides pushing harder to win their customers. The One itself has seen a $150 price drop since its release. It took the 360 years to get that cut.

As has been said many times on other threads of the same ilk, early adopters will always get the worst deal. It's been happening in numerous industries for years, so it really should be no surprise.

 

DogMeat, while many early adopters may agree with you regarding them getting the worst deal, I personally disagree. I've been playing the console for an entire year, enjoying its games and features the entire time, getting lots of free games and access to
alphas and betas and seeing the console personally grow from something rather small to something much, much bigger and better - and the best part? It's still going.

 

Don't mistake what I said to be a negative comment. I too have been enjoying the console and watching it evolve over the months. However, there is no mistake about it. A larger hard drive and free games for $350 is a better deal than a smaller hard drive
with no games for $500. From a technical stand point.

 

Dog meat what you said is absolutely true. If you haven't bought one yet a bigger internal and cheaper price as standard is fantastic. I'm quite happy I got in at the start and don't feel ripped off at all. 1TB will fill up fast also then the next round
begins when the 1.5 TB or 2TB version comes.

 

Don't get me wrong when I started this thread guys. I too am glad I got it day one. I'm just surprised to see the price drops and hardware updates coming a lot quicker than any previous gen of console. It concerning in that with tech moving so fast I really
don't see these systems lasting anywhere near the length of time as the previous gen. Being that the hardware was already somewhat old on release. I don't feel ripped off. I just feel next time I will wait.

 

I honestly can't say how long I think this generation of consoles will last. On the one hand, yes, technology is moving fast (as it always does) so it wont be long before what's inside running these machines is outdated (that is to say, more than they already
are). That being said, games can only go so far, so I don't see them releasing a new generation of consoles solely for the purpose of the gaming at 4k resolution at the highest FPS available, but I could be wrong.

Also, as rocky as this generations release was, I don't see either manufacturer releasing new console until the public is ready for the next evolutionary step, what ever that may be, be it a constantly connected device, all digital format, holographic interface,
etc.
