    I was running out of space on a 60GB HDD in my 360 E so I bought a new 120GB hard drive and a transfer cable (as I bought the cable at a trustworthy brick-and-mortar retailer I know it's legit). I put the new drive in my console, attached the old one to
    the cable and then to the machine. The transfer dialog popped up and I went through the process of transferring to the new drive. So far so good.

    After the transfer finished I was informed that not all of the content had been moved so I navigated to the storage menu to see what it was. Attempting to transfer an item manually brought up a prompt to sign in to my profile in order to do so. As soon as
    I selected the option to do so another pop-up informed me that a new update was available. I started the update and around 80 minutes later (at around only 40% downloaded) the console turned off on its own and did not restart. Turning it back on resulted in
    a frozen splash screen.

    Removing the new drive resolved that problem, but the screen freezes on startup whenever that drive is in the machine. In addition the transfer cable is not recognized if I try to use it with that drive now and if it is attached that way the console freezes
    if I attempt to access the storage menu in system settings. I know I can re-download my profile, games, and DLC's but I really hope this update didn't just permanently cost me seven years worth of saves and the cash I spent on a new HDD.

    My Xbox One Elite blew up, literally. Sparked and caught on fire!!

    well mine fell out of warranty about 6 weeks ago took one insider update to wreck my hard drive. they did offer me a 20 dollar discount but the price for repairs are to high so it will go to the trash.

    I took a hiatus but am back to the grind with the new update. Always looking for new crew/friends to wreck Los Santos with.

    Hi, sadly I believe you may well have lost those years of game saves. The 120GB hard drive you got was it a third party hard drive from somewhere such as Amazon/EBay ?

    As the xbox will not now function correctly with the hard drive installed there is little you can do to recover the data on that hard drive.

    This is one of the dangers of not using officially licensed products if indeed the hard drive is not a genuine Xbox hard drive, I'm very sorry you lost all your saves. It may be a good idea from now on to use cloud storage to keep your saves safe should
    something like this happen again.

    there was no 60 or 120 gig hard drive for the slim or E slim models they only came in 250 and 320 and later on 500. sometimes updates have a tendency to bork a bootleg drive if you would have had one of the MS brand drives you would have not have had any
    issues updating the system.

  6. Well crap. Like a fat-head I neglected to do my homework this time and just assumed that it was legit (as in from a licensed third-party) since the order was fulfilled by Amazon themselves. I expect this kind of thing from my kids but I should be old enough
    to know better by now. Ah, well. Life is constant learning, after all.

    At least I did save my Borderlands 2 Level 64 Commando to the cloud a few weeks ago. I don't mind starting over with the rest of my games, to be honest, it was just that one that bothered me. (Playing through all of normal difficulty and TVHM again would
    be incredibly tedious). I suppose I'll pay the ransom to get cloud access again long enough to get that one back.

    Don't feel so bad.The last update bricked my 100% genuine Microsoft came-with-the-console-never-messed-with hard drive as well.
