    Did I trick my XSX to do DV 120hz on my LG CX?


    Ok so long story sort of short. I wanted to try Elder Scrolls Online new fidelity mode with 120hz as the game has some input lag in this mode. I forgot I wanted to do this until I was in game. So I went into settings, set the hz to 120, accepted the change and went back to the game, expecting it to load in as HDR instead of Dolby Vision

    Much to my surprise… it stayed DV. I went back and forth into settings a few times and it was still at 120hz. I played around for a couple of hours and I swear that input lag was minimal to gone.

    So the question I have is… was I imagining it? Does the game setting not switch until you quit and start it over? I did this and it did go to HDR.

    I’m fully open to the fact I might have been trying to make it so in my head. People smarter than me… did i trick it or does it just not switch with a game you already have in DV 60hz until you quit and start over?

    Xbox series x 4k@120fps problem

    It may be related to the MEMC as mentioned above....the LG CX is different as it has a native 120Hz mode

    Do you have Dolby Vision enabled? If so, try disabling it as most TVs can't support DV and 120Hz at the same time....the higher end companies (LG, Sony etc) are slowing rolling it out but, I believe, only 2021 models so far

    In the short-term, you could just leave it at 60Hz as I don't think any game really utilises the 120Hz fully yet. Might be worth dropping TCL a message to see if they can offer some solution or tell you if a firmware update is in the works:

    Pretty sure its down to LG to solve.

    to be fair though, as far as i know, its only Battlefield 1 and Mass Effect Andromeda that take advantage of DV. May aswell just wait for the series X.

    now i just use the built in netflix app on my CX if i want to make good use out of DV.

    use FreeSync Premium for games.

    Xbox Series X - no support for 120hz on HDMI 2.0 TVs under 4k? (ie 1080p/1440p)

    To achive 4K at 120hz your TV needs to have HDMI 2.1 ports and supports 120hz, such as the LG CX TV,

    The bandwidth limit of HDMI 2.0 will only allow 4K at 60hz.

    What do you play on?

    Right now I’m on a 42 inch Samsung QLED 4K HDR set, but before the Series X is out I’m planning on upgrading to the LG C9 or CX in 65 inch. I need that HDMI 2.1 120hz OLED goodness in my life.
