There are a number of devices today that have self maintaining systems in them, albeit nothing (as of yet) replaces the capabilities of a
knowledgeable individual performing said maintenance. In any case, consoles and a number of other modern high tech devices are laden with "warranty voiding" stickers and glue drops on certain seams/screws that are intended to keep end users from trying
to open them up. Their motivations for that practice are arguable and beyond the scope of this discussion... suffice to say they exist... and keep some users from doing what they consider to be routine maintenance. Cleaning is very much a part of routine maintenance
and is something our consoles do not do for themselves.

Anything mechanical and/or electronic should perform "as is" when you leave it be, unless it's defective in some way. While I am a firm believer in "If it ain't broke, don't attempt to fix it..." that's a statement that doesn't fit with routine maintenance
IMO. Speaking to the cleaning aspect, it is not an attempt to fix anything. It is simply a preventative measure to keep a device clean and, if done properly, can play a significant role in preventing any device from breaking in the first place. As I said,
the environment will play a big role in whether or not a device like a console would benefit from anything more than the occasional wipe down with a moist cloth, so YMMV. In the end it's up to the individual whether or not their devices may need a bit more
in depth cleaning, even if it's just to make them feel better about how their devices are cared for. In that regard, I don't see those who want to do a bit more than just wipe it off and leave it be as doing something wrong, or doing something they shouldn't
be doing. Well, unless they're doing something like sticking a toothpick into a vent hole, et al... X)

  3. I would imagine that the plastic fan blades would be able to withstand being poked by a toothpick without it bending or breaking. They're about as durable as any typical 120mm PC fan.

However, it is a little bit of a concern that you were pushing down on the fan... hopefully you haven't misaligned it from the bearing.

If you can feel gentle airflow coming outwards from the vent holes, and you
    don't
hear an unpleasant grinding noise, the fan is likely okay. Next time, just stick to wiping dust off the console from the outside. The insides are Microsoft's problem, as far as any available warranty is concerned.

My bad. If I had my time over or could *correct* the post, I would've said that hi-tech gadgets these days MAINTAIN THEMSELVES - especially consoles - and in all my time of owning and loving consoles, I have never, ever, seen or heard of a console that didn't
perform "as is" when you leave it be. If it ain't broke, don't attempt to fix it! 🙂

If you turn on your Xbox One and it blows up it is damaged.
    You never disappoint Goth. :)

Did I bend my One's fan blades?

A question to the OP: where are these blades of which you speak? How do you "bend blades" without physically taking apart the console?
the blades for the system fan in the xbox one S, i was just wondering if a little bit of pressure from a toothpick could harm the fan at all. only reason it freaked me out so bad is that i heard a noise when the toothpick pushed down on one of the blades
but after replicating the scenario with an old cpu fan, its just the sound of the wooden toothpick sliding down the plastic and making a small "grinding" kind of sound. just surface friction i think. wouldn't the fan make some gawd-awful noise if one of the
blades were to snap or crack a bit? probably sound really wobbly right?

either way its still as quiet as it's ever been so more reason for me to believe it was the toothpick making the sound and not the fan itself.

Compressed air is worse than a vacuum cleaner.

as in the canned air stuff?

either way i booted it up no problem and have been playing for a couple hours. the fan sounds the same as it always did and its not making any loud or grinding noises so im pretty sure its okay. just never going to clean it that way again
Regarding the canned air, it can result in condensation wihtin the console, that's why it is worse then a vacuum cleaner.

But since the console seems to be performing fine at the moment, I don't think you'll have to worry.

    Hi

Hopefully you have not caused any damage to the console, all you can do is power the console on and see what happens.
