Meh, I'm just going off of what was quoted from the OP...

 

@GG - the assumption is that the "code update" they gave them was the "Kinect 10%" mod they made to their drivers. Diablo III dev was started (and I guess, almost complete) long before K10%.

So two things happened; 1. MS gave them update drivers 2. Gave them their expertise.

Some time ago I suggested MS should have "demanded" devs hit 1080p - but to be honest I've changed my opinion (even though MS do indeed appear to be doing that) after I saw BF4 4k native on my PC and it didn't make any noticeable difference!

 

You got to see BF4 at native 4K!? I'm so envious! I'd like to see that for myself to see the difference, if any...

 

@GG - no doubt I would see a difference if I placed my X1 next to it - but honestly I saw no difference while playing the game (if that makes sense). Which is why I have changed my opinion on "resolution gate" - as far as I'm concerned resolution doesn't
matter (I use to think it mattered).

If I get my act together I will try and set up a comparison video (don't hold your breath - I am too busy playing!). Until then I suspect most "1080p matters" supporters won't believe me

 

I had mentioned this awhile back, and just hope it isn't what is actually happening --- Devs are using the media "buzz" about the One and not getting to 1080P and they're using that to be lazy, and not putting in the extra effort to get their games looking
the best they can. I understand they have deadlines and what not, but they can't keep falling back on, "The game is 900P, the hardware on the One won't allow us to get to 1080P".

Having said all that, I think it's silly the amount of talk about 1080P. This all reminds me of the "bit war" with the Genesis/Nintendo. Does the game run good? Is the game fun to play? Those are still the two most important questions I ask about a game.

 

The only reason this last gen resolution was a point of discussion is because Sony was offering the best of last gen at 1080p.

Now that MS is doing the same most have been smart enough to not make too much of a big noise so that people don't turn their attention back to the fact that the XBox ONE has better exclusives and more Next Gen games.

 

Satsumo: Putting aside the looks, you really didn't think the game felt any different while playing?

Playing Battlefield 3, I don't own 4 as yet. on my PC the game feels worlds apart when run at 720p vs 1080p, I can't imagine how different it would feel to play at 4k.

Just the fact of your shots being able to be placed with greater accuracy would make a difference I would have thought.

You must have a monster of a PC though to be able to play Battlefield 4 at 4k.

 

@Biscuit - yeah, the monster cost me £2k (to self-build).

The only thing that felt better was the fact that I could play 64 player TDM - I didn't notice any difference in terms of smoothness, draw distance, accuracy, etc. But maybe I'm too busy "playing" to not notice. I'll try and analyse properly - but doesn't
it prove the point....I actually have to go back and spend time "really" looking to see if I can spot the difference. It's not quite the "night and day" some people make it out to be....maybe higher resolution isn't all it's cut out to be?

 

I am glad we got the day one patch. And I am also glad that Phil Spencer had the Xbox Team work directly with them. It shows their belief in the ability of the Xbox One and that game.

 

Glad I picked this up but don't think it looks any better than it did on 360. And not happy with how the transfer player works I could probably do it if I hooked up my 360 again but not worth it just for that so I had to start over from beginning

your story is pretty much carbon copy to mine. I plan to drift back to console gaming primarily for the benefits of the big screen and big sound. Is an MCC console planned?

 

It's a testament to how great "Diablo III" looked on the 360 that when you first play it on the ONE you think it looks pretty much the same.

However if you played other games on the ONE and used to go back to "Diablo III" on the 360 because it's such a great game... then you did notice that it didn't look as sharp as the stuff you were playing on the ONE.

So when you actually do fire it up on the ONE you notice it's sharper looking, very fast and there isn't even a hiccup of slowdown no matter how busy things get on screen.

You'll also notice extra details if you played the game a lot on the 360 as well as the changes they made to some of the cut scenes.

Great game that will keep you going for a long long time.

 

Originally I bought a ps4 because this game was coming exclusively to it.

Now I have had a chance to play it on both consoles. I think the visual quality is actually on-par with very little difference in terms of quality. What I have found is the frame-rates get very erractic and more than the -10 fps everyone is talking about.

On the PS4 this is very noticeable early on but as I advanced (now lvl 62 Barbarian) and with the patches it's almost non-existence. On my brother's X1 we've been playing today (lvl 50 Sader) and we pretty much blew through the game (having done this a least
a few dozen times on pc and with the new speed buff, xp bonsues and such it's a breeze to level a new character). I have notice some really bad frame drops on the x1 later in the game with more intensified things ie tons of monsters on the screen. I got a
100 kill brutal masacre with tons of mobs still left on the screen and the poor x1 was barely chugging at points, but the foreground fps still seemed to be perfect it was just the player animation's/monsters.

Now this doesn't make much sense to me as to why when starting out in act1 on the ps4 with very little creatures I would get lag like this, but later in the game it vanishes and with the x1 I only get the choppiness later in the game with tons of mobs. It
baffles me.

I'm not trying to be a fanboi here because I think Blizzard is cloaking some performance issues on both consoles. The PS4 does some weird things in certain levels and effects just up and disappear for no reason or the buffs will stop showing up where as
with the x1 as I mentioned the only issue is the framedrop with lots of mobs later in the game.

I'm to the point now where this resolution war (although I strongly advocated for it at first) is getting old and I think I'd prefer a more constant FPS. I believe the x1 would be just fine at 900p without the issues, but the issues the ps4 is experiencing
are just blizzard's attempt at optimization and I'd rather have all the effects, lots of mobs, etc at 900p as well.

Oh and to further point out some issues - The x1 inputs are about 20 times more responsive in this game even during the lag my character still responds where as with the ps4 I've had to push a button twice to get certain buffs to fire - the barbarian is
giving me a lot of trouble calling for my ultimate for instance i have to press r1 twice sometimes for it to fire.
