Discus and support DEVS take on NOT always online in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; I don't see what's stopping a dev from making a game that requires you to be online to play it, even if the console doesn't require that overall....     I don't see what's stopping a dev from making a game that requires you to be online to play it, even if the console doesn't require that overall. There's a difference between "you need to be online because of DRM and restrictions" and "you need to be online
    because of all these awesome extra things we can do that make the game better". People would be much more accepting of the latter.

  2. Sigma, I agree with you regarding what you said about the latter, but I still think having a system-wide infrastructure would improve games across the board using the cloud. Because it was removed the incentive simply isn't there.

    This is why I never would have bought a console with a 24 hour check-in. A little blurb on how to get Steam to work offline...

    May not work unless I enable it while online? I'm always online, if my internet went out...just how am I supposed to "enable" it?

    As of now it's supposed to be 2 weeks before your games stop working from not being online, though there is talk Steam is moving to an always online structure.

    Certain games like Titanfall/C.O.D. I expect to be online; the day they hold my single player games hostage with a online only requirement, is the day I find another hobby to replace gaming.

    The developers can still design their game anyway they see fit. The 24 check-in was for D.R.M. only.

    Well, Deedles, that day will eventually come (although maybe not necessarily soon). Better start looking into those new hobbies you were talking about. I'd recommend knitting, stamp-collecting, or maybe even underwater basket-weaving - I hear that last hobby

    @tohellnbak, vocal minority? Really? Just stop. If that was the case MS wouldn't have changed. I'm always connected. Always, but that doesn't mean I would have bought the console. I wouldn't have and neither would the majority of people who like my"consumer
    rights". MS saw that and changed.

    Tohellandbaks reply is the reason why sometimes....I just wonder if some of the ppl here are oblivious or really in desperate need to convince themselves theres nothing wrong with their system of choice.

    do explain ICN... as since day one you stated you do not like anything XB1 and all you do is downplay anything that we all know you already do not like.... anyways....

    Yes Brand.. vocal minority... to those that had no reason to complain, why talk about it. If nothing is wrong, no reason to take up internet space. But to those that like to complain, just for the simple fact they are most likely spoiled little brats and
    like to complain about anything. Well, they make the most noise. Think of 10 small 8 year old kids going to the movies. 9 want to see the this movie, but you get that one child who doesnt want to. Guess who EVERYONE in the movie theater hears?

    I don't think it was a minority at all. Literally everywhere you looked gaming sites, news sites, technology sites, consumer sites and radio station.s and tv programs all shunned MS and laughed. I complained everywhere to because it was so anti consumer.
    MS is a giant that don't listen to a few vocal people complain.

    Millions and millions complaining publicly is different than a few little kids in a movie theatre.

    I bet the devs who were/are making multiplatform games didn't even care in the fisrt place. They already had to design games for an offline environment as well, pretty much. And if they're only doing One games, nothing stops them from making always online
    games so they never had to remove any such features. The cloud is still there, apparently, so if they wanna go all Titanfall, what's there to stop them? So those two points are why I think the devs never seemed to have issues with not always online after all.

    Games that are only MP like Titanfall is one thing. Having to check in with Microsoft to play all of your games is another.

    But wasn't the point of this discussion to talk about the always online and not the little check in? The check in wouldn't have had any affect on the gameplay since obviously a short check in wouldn't let the game use the cloud etc. The 24-hour-stupidity
    was a whole other story.

    I do like it when devs include local because I tend to play that more these days than online, but in this day and age not including online is just a bad decision.

    sometimes they cannot find proof they cheated, take aimdots there is no way to prove they are using them so cant just go banning people with no evidence.

    you might pay for online gameplay but almost all third party titles don't see a dime from that money, as the online servers are provided by the game devs/publishers at their cost. it is mainly up to the devs to patch out hacks, cheats and improve glitch
    detection.
