Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition not launching

Hey guys, so I got Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition from the 14 day gamepass trial, but whenever I press A to launch the game, I get the boot screen for a bit where Dante is facing off against Nero, but then the game closes. It gives me no error message,
no error code, it just closes. I've posted on r/xboxone and r/DevilMayCry, but got no help. I've searched to see if anyone had this issue and only managed to find one review on DMC4SE's Xbox marketplace page, where a user described my exact same problem a
year ago... I messaged him/her but he/she hasn't replied. I have reinstalled the game twice, restarted the console, checked my network connection, cleared my mac address, installed other gamepass games which work fine (the only one that doesn't work is dmc4).

Any help is appreciated.

Why not the original?

So i was just on my Xbox and i was playing devil may cry and i remembered i have devil may cry 4, and this was my favorite of all the devil may cry games, so i searched for it and found that it wasn't backward compatible, but the
special edition was available for sale on the store. i saw this and thought "why would they make the special edition available but not the original backward compatible?" i know it might just be for money but i still think it was a bad choice because if i spent
the same amount on the normal version why would i buy it again its not that i'm complaining because it is reasonably priced but still i have the disc already and it doesn't even have the add-on's the special edition does? just a thought on something i think
is dumb but this probably won't be seen either way so it doesn't matter.

Hi, I had this happen to me, It's such an awesome game that I was determined to play it no matter what, What fixed it for me was uninstalling the game, then clearing local saved games, Then installing again, I let it install without playing or doing anything
else on my xbox until it was done installing. Those 2 simple steps worked, maybe they will for you too

 

I was optimistic since I had not tried clearing local saves...

I uninstalled, cleared local saves and then reinstalled, but same problem.

I'm sorry to hear the problem is still persisting. By any chance have you attempted to remove and re- add your profile from the Xbox? If not I
would recommend trying to remove and re-add your account.



Side Note: It is very important to make sure you know the primary email/password to the account before removing it from the console.

Also, if the issue persists something else I would recommend to try out is to perform a

Soft Factory Reset(while keeping games and apps)
Before resetting your console make sure of the following:

• There is a stable network connection.
  
• The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)
  
  
  

Once the setup is complete it will ask if we want to keep settings or manual setup let's do
manual setup.Give it a shot and let us know of any changes.

 

Just tried readding my profile, but the problem persists.

Unfortunately I can't do a soft reset, because I don't have access to all the profiles on my Xbox.

uninstall ,
re-installing, and remove and re-add your account.

If this issue persists, unfortunately the last step to try is the soft
factory reset.

• Press the
  Xboxbutton to open the guide.
• Select
  Settings.
• Select
  All Settings.
• Select
  System.
• Select
  Console info & updates.
• Select
  Reset console.
• Select
  Reset and keep my games & apps

Warning Resetting your console to its factory defaults erases all accounts, saved games, settings, and home Xbox associations. Anything not synchronized with Xbox
Live will be lost. Your console syncs with Xbox Live automatically when it’s connected with the service, so if you've been offline for a while, you'll need to connect to Xbox Live before taking these steps.

If you do not know the information for your profile, I recommend to try recovering the Microsoft Account emails and passwords. For assistance, check out the

Sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox One.
