    developers using azure cloud computing?

Can anybody shoot me a list of developers who are currently working with azure cloud computing tech, because I have looked all over the net and I cant seem to find anything on it except a couple of things from the titanfall team and a Microsoft presentation
where they demonstrate physics running completely on the azure cloud. I'm curious to know which developers are working with this and what they are currently doing and what we can expect in the future with this development tool.

    :)

Is Microsoft Cloud/Azure a paid service for developers or FREE ?

There sure are a lot of assumptions going on in this thread.

First of all, we have no clue how much it costs a developer to use the Microsoft cloud - including whether that cost is up-front only, on a contract, or is indefinite until they stop paying, etc.

Secondly, Ubisoft is most very definitely using Azure for Xbox One AND a third party (or self hosted) network of servers for their non Xbox platform games. Although we don't know the cost of Azure, several developers have come right out and happily acknowledged that Microsoft Azure/Cloud is a wonderful, affordable, and easy to use cloud service. This would allow us to easily assume that the Azure cloud is much cheaper to any alternatives (including self hosting/first party hosting (i.e. Ubisoft running their own servers), which is wildly more expensive regardless).

Remember, Microsoft came out and said, "Every Xbox One multiplayer game is using the Microsoft Cloud". Yes, EVERY multiplayer game. It could be that for smaller games/developers access to Azure/Cloud is free (in fact, Microsoft did say that Developers have free access to the cloud - whether or not that means for development testing/purposes only or not is yet to be seen).

Aren't we paying $60/yr so that all games will have dedicated servers ?. This is looking like another Gears of War 3 bait and switch.

    developers using azure cloud computing?

please if all u have is negativity to throw at this post just keep it to yourself. I know the opinions of the masses at sony camp and im not looking to hear it. all I want to know is who is working with it, what their opinions of it are, what they are doing,
and what can we look forward to in the future. Im not here to argue about whether or not computation can be performed over a server or what graphical enhancements we will not be able to see with it. thankyou in advance.

Turn 10 used it for Forza 5.

Whoever is doing Forza Horizon 2

    And the Crackdown developer.

Other than that not many have said what they will do with the Cloud.

It would be a hard one for anyone here to answer with an accuracy, as mentioned by 24, Horizon 2, Crackdown, Forza 5, I would look at the release list and target the developers forums if they have them.

  7. turn 10, respawn, and whoever is making crackdown come to mind. Wouldn't surprise me if we see some in halo 5 and gears 4 as well. not sure if insomniac is using it. Also possibly quantum break

    developers using azure cloud computing?

I wonder how many games are going to use 'The Cloud', I'm sure there are several working on something, or experimenting with cloud computing, but whatever they do with it means it will be a exclusive online only game.

  9. As far as the information I can find on the internet says, the 'Azure Cloud' is nothing more than a lot of dedicated servers.

I would think that Microsoft would be putting off developers from using them, except for the games that absolutely require their use.

After all despite their huge number, they are still a finite resource. There is only so many servers, so much processing power and bandwidth available.

I don't think this will be used much untill later in the X1's life. It'll probably come into play more when Devs are trying to squeeze as much out of the X1 as possible. Once they start making game's just for the X1, instead of for the X1 & 360, that's more
when we'll start seeing what the X1 and cloud are truly capable of.

well I know titanfall uses it on both versions. and as far as Microsoft not wanting developers to use the server farm, that would be against microsofts best interests. I mean providing dedicated servers for all games gives them one helluvan edge over sony
who cant afford to do so. azure is a 10billion dollar infrastructure and for them to put of developers from using it would not be good business. and as far as compacity from what I'm to understand every server out of the 300,000 can produce 25,000 virtual
servers so they should never ever get to compacity, at least not in the next ten years and they are constantly adding to their server farm. as far as computing goes, I've witnessed and experienced how well titanfall runs and all the ai/physics are run on azure
so I'm pretty impressed that such an early game is running on azure. I'm excited to see what all can be done with azure cloud computing myself. I know that all of the stuff running in the background of titanfall is also azure and there is tons of it. once
developers start experiment with how much they can put in the environment we will see the true power of azure. also, I don't see why single player games cant utilize the same type of computing. sure if not online the sparkle and glits wouldn't be there but
to me, if you have a console and your not online then you are pretty much living in the dark ages of gaming. but I do understand how developers don't want finished product to be different from version to version but still I see it as progress is progress and
gamers need to get used to the fact that consoles are an online monster now and not being connected is for people who play Nintendo games!

  12. Those 300,000 servers can each have 25,000 virtual servers.

Yet those physical servers still only have a limited about a processing power, each only has a limited amount of bandwidth it can access.

Just because Microsoft have branded their server farms as 'The Cloud' does not mean they have infinite power, they are just as limited as any other.

So there will come a point where Microsoft have a choice to make. Keep adding more servers and bandwidth, a somewhat expensive proposition, or start turning off older games. The latter of which means that say you wanted to play Titanfall in six years time,
you could end up finding its been turned off.

I agree that saying they are actively trying to get people not to use their servers was somewhat hyperbole, but I doubt they are trying that hard to persuade folk like Ubisoft to use them either.

You do realise that Nintendo consoles have online play I hope.

    developers using azure cloud computing?

Well I know for a fact that Microsoft is building a new server farm in Holland, not sure if its for Azure (would think it would be).

But the reason I know this is that the company I work for is buil;ding it for them (the building not the server farm)

So there isnt any reason why Microsoft could just build more server farms, one or two here and there would make a huge difference. (one in England would be appreciated)

  14. There is a reason, its called money.

Server farms are not cheap to run. The electricity cost of the servers alone is huge, then you have to add in the cooling systems because these thing pump out a massive amount of heat. Then add in maintenance costs.

I'm likely preaching to the converted here as you know how expensive the place is going to be.

@Biscuitz0r The dedicated servers spin up when necessary so they shouldn't be turning any games off. If no one is playing Titanfall for 5 years then its not using any resources during that time period.
