Destiny's Data Usage

was checking out the data usage on the xbox over the past couple of weeks and found the destiny was using between 190MB to nearly 800MB per hour of play, now that is a lot of data for standard gameplay, so to those of you trying to use or do use 3g and 4g
or have bandwidth caps just keep an eye on your data usage.

I have a a little less Gigs then you but I play quite a lot and I don't usually go over the limit don't even get close to going over.

We don't have exact data numbers, but you would be well under the 5GB/month if you did not download anything, just used it to chat and play on LIVE.

 

I think I would advise people to not play the game if you have data caps.

 

Watching it on my router it ends up using about 20-30 kb/s down and 30-40 kb/s up anytime I'm not in orbit. It certainly uses dramatically more than just about any other game out there.

 

Gamers want better graphics/sound in their games...careful what you wish for, your isp or your data plan may not be able to keep up....

 

Don't think graphics or sound come into play here. Constantly connected worlds, there's you problem.

 

Was kind of curious about the data usage myself.

Just turned on my X1, checked the bandwidth usage and saw some interesting stats.

9/1/2014 - 9/11/2014: 25GB

9/11/2014 - 9/30/2014: 23GB

First, it seems like there was more usage for the first couple days after Destiny released than there was for the remainder of the entire month afterward.

Second, don't know why it would break up the month into 2 chunks like that... unless the first time I checked this feature was on the 11th (when I set the usage sample for a 30 day window).

 

Don't see how it would be any different from when I played BF3 multiplayer exclusively for nearly 2 years.

 

because bf3 on the 360 and like most games from the 360 era didn't consume 100's of MB per hour, from what I remember BF3 used around 8 - 10MB per hour of continuous play. besides I was just making people aware in case they have data caps so they can take
this into account when also downloading games, does not affect me as I have unlimited data but for someone with say 10gb or even 40gb caps it will become more apparent.

 

Surely that must be an average over time including some patches, or the like, downloading as well? 'Cos 800mb an hour for straight-up gameplay sounds a bit excessive.

 

nope, it is just gameplay, must be streaming a lot of stuff from the server side
