Destiny via Xbox app hangs on Battleye install (PC)

Hi all--I did actually find a fix! found it before i saw the above. what i tried was what i described earlier: i uninstalled D2 from my normal account (because i didn't have room to install it two places at once), then installed it from scratch while actually logged into my admin account, and ran it for the first time from there. that worked and got battleye installed. Then when I went back to my normal account and manually found the destiny.exe, I could still run it from the normal account.

I didn't realize battleye had its own, separate install directory; I'd def recommend Farscape's solution, it makes sense that it would work and it's way less of a headache.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I when into properties and ticked it under compatibility. Still getting a did not respond error. I'm also running as administrator. Same as the original OP, i am having this issue with just D2 on Xbox app. R6 on steam is just fine.

ah---forgot to mention but i did try that as well. running Destiny 2 itself as an admin doesn't do anything different at all. I wanted to try running the xbox app as an admin, but that doesn't seem to be possible? the option isn't there when you right-click it.

it's ridiculous in this day and age that you ever have to run an app as an admin manually; if an app needs admin permissions, then it should just ask for them via a UAC prompt when you run it...

I thought about just swapping over to my admin account completely and running the xbox app and also destiny there, once, to see if it could get battleye to install properly. But my admin account can't see that Destiny is installed; running the xbox app in that account shows only three or four of my dozens of installed games. And I'd really like to avoid having to reinstall destiny again on that account, it'll take ages. Even if it worked, that would mean i'd have to swap over to my admin account every time i wanted to play! You should be able to run anything from a normal, safe standard user account...

Hi there Skaramuche welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. Have you tried uninstalling and installing the Xbox app? Also, is this the only game with this issue?

Hi Christopher-- I hadn't tried that, but I have now. Reinstalling the Xbox app didn't change anything, i'm afraid. Exact same symptoms as before.

This is the only game with this issue; I have a lot of other Gamepass games installed and they all launch with no trouble. I strongly expect that the Battleye cheat protection is what's not working here. When I try to launch Destiny, I get a Battleye installation dialog; when I click "install" and then accept the EULA, I see a UAC prompt; and when I enter my admin PW, I see the error message pictured above. So it seems to be Battleye that "can't find" destiny2launcher.exe.

I managed to get into the \WindowsApps\ folder where the launcher is located--I had to "change ownership" of the folder before Windows Explorer would let me see inside it, even with admin access. I've confirmed that destiny2launcher.exe exists, exactly where it's supposed to be. But, I suspect that whatever stopped me from getting into the folder normally may also be stopping the battleye installation from "finding" the program there.
