Destiny: The Taken King License problem

I have never had any issues with DLC over the years with Xbox; anything I've purchased has been available to all accounts on the console I made the purchase on (the one that holds the licence). Destiny and the first 2 expansions were no different, I bought
it and when my wife wanted to play on her gamertag she could without any issues.

However, with The Taken King, this is not possible. I can play it just fine and have access to all that is TTK but when she signs in to her gamertag it doesn't give her access to any TTK content and says she needs to buy it ( remember this is all on the
same console). Now if both of us are signed in on that console and she goes to log into the game, she then has access to everything TTK related, but again that's only if were both signed into the same console at the same time, which is frustrating (especially
since my kids like to use my gamertag on another xbox for youtube and whatnot).

If I sign in I have access, if I'm signed in with her she has access, but if shes signed in by herself she has no access (but still access to the previous DLC's and everything else on that console).

The only information I seem to be able to find is that this isn't an issue on PS3/4 consoles, that a lot of people are having this problem on Xbox360/one, and no one knows why.

Is this a known issue, an intentional licensing thing so someone gets more money, a bug on bungie's part or Microsoft's part?

License Transfer Problems with Destiny DLC

Hey. So, my cousin license transferred to my 360, and I clicked download on the Taken King DLC for destiny. But, the content was not transferred over to my account. Help?

doesnt destiny the taken king come with: destiny, expansion 1 and 2 and the taken king for 60$?

It's actually been done by design on Bungie's part. They have not allowed the game to be shared on the older consoles.

 

If thats true, then doing so they would be going against what Microsoft themselves state about Downloadable Content, which I would imagine would cause all kinds of issues (legal and otherwise) between consumers, MS, and Bungie.

 

Not necessarily. Not all content can be shared like that. It's rare that it happens, but it does happen. It's usually up to the publishers as to what's released on the marketplace and if it can be allowed to be shared like that.

 

Well....

Under the "Usage Restrictions" on xbox before making the purchase it specifically states

"Access to this item will also be granted to all users on this first console"

So.. guess that means its a Microsoft licensing issue after all... or some very very shady business practices.

 

After quite a while talking with MS support the official response is yes this content should be available to all accounts on the first console it was purchased/installed on. But they have to look into it further to figure it out and contact bungie to see
if they are aware of it and. The rep said they would get I touch with me again in a few 24-72 hours for a follow up.

So for now, for anyone else having this issue.. its still up in the air awaiting a solution

 

The ability to gameshare is a feature of most gaming consoles and is well known by publishers. However,as Smwutches as said, sometimes they decide not to do this. Bungie has decided this in the case of The Taken King which seems to be a thorn in the side
of many gamers.

As you can see by the link below, Bungie has stated that they do not support "gameshare". As such, you would need to take the issue up with them.

In the meantime, I did want to mention that gameshare is supported on the newer generation consoles. This means that if you have an Xbox One console all accounts would be able to access the content.

I guess we can list that one under the catergory of "Strange but True".

 

In regards to your post and the bungie one, Gameshare is a PlayStation thing, I don't know how xb1 works as i'm on 360 but it's all about the DRM license or whatever it's called. The previous content works fine just not ttk. Also on that note the MS rep
I talked to said l, and I quote "We've found out that some users are also experiencing the same thing, {name}. It can or should be shared to all accounts on this first console where you downloaded the game. "

The fact that the usage restrictions states it is accessible, and MS acknowledges this if bungie changes that on their end, again problems ensue.

 

The purchase screen itself clearly states that it's available to the original purchaser and all other purchasers on the console it was purchased on. Numerous people have photos posted of it.

 

just so you know you said "all other purchasers" it says all other accounts will have access to it. Just so someone doesn't get your post confused lol

Some people don't even realize there's an option to view the "usage restrictions".

Perhaps I should take a picture of it too... ya know just in case someone tries something shady... lol

 

Forums like this are really pointless. Respect to all the posters, but you're really just speculating and guessing. There doesn't seem to be anyone on this thread from either Microsoft or Bungie to give us a definitive answer.

To Onyx62: 'Strange but True' isn't what I would call it. If your information is correct, as it seems to be, then, in essence, we were lied to in the Usage Restrictions screen. Unfortunately, there's nothing 'strange' about that.

 

Microsoft does what they can to provide content as stated. However, if the developer decides to turn off the license sharing, as Bungie can do, then there's nothing they can do about it.

 

If it were indeed done intentionally and that information withheld then either Bungie or Microsoft would have legal issues to deal with as I'm pretty sure it would be selling something under false pretenses. As it stands now anyone having this issue essentially
did not get what they paid for (by description and agreement).

But given how this particular issue seems to be effecting 360 owners; and numerous other issues effecting everyone on all consoles, does lean me more towards it being an unintentional bug.

The only thing that makes it pointless is just because there's no official answer from an official source, so yes it is all
just speculation as there's not much else we have to go on. However its not entirely pointless because anyone else having this issue will see their not the only ones (which is what's happened on the same topic I posted on bungie help), and if ever answered,
will stand as a solution for those still searching.

But yes, speculation and guessing, even if some far-fetched, to make light of a completely uncalled for situation.
