Destiny, disc Pre-Ordered no Pre-Download

I'm not sure if anyone knows if the pre-download will be available for people who (like me) who have preordered a copy of Destiny from a store and doesnt want to have to cancel the preorder so I can get the Pre-download...

So does any one know whether a code will be sent to start the pre download or not? Otherwise Microsoft is just keeping the technology to themselves so that they make even more money?!

Ive looked on the Xbox store and it seems you can only download the two preorders and a third option is greyed out (possibly for the future digital copy).

Will Halo MCC be a Digital Download?

Gamestop does pre-orders on digital downloads. I just recently pre-ordered Destiny as a digital download, so I'm sure they would do it for MCC. I think they just email you the code.

Only game I have pre-ordered is Destiny. Don't tend to pre-order games at all.

Umm what technology are they keeping to themselves exactly? If you want to preload the game cancel your preorder, get a refund, buy MS gift card and preorder off the Xbox Store. Seems pretty simple.

I'm a little bummed I can't pre-load but I'd rather have the physical copy so dems the breaks. Makes sense though.

 

You can't pre-download a disc. You can only pre-download the digital version.

 

ok I'll be honest, I was a bit drunk when I posted this originally. Sorry. I must turn into a conspiracy theorist when I've had a few...

But I don't know why you can't pre download the data you will have to install when you insert the disc. Ive got a terrible internet connection (100mbps) so it takes forever when I install a disc.

And, much like some people I like to collect discs so I want a physical copy. Plus if I cancel my pre-order, I lose my deposit.

 

Maybe the disc will pre-load early? If the internet is unplugged when you try?

 

When you install from a disc, doesn't the majority of the data come from that disc? While I've read that Day One patches can be sizable, surely the required download is only a fraction of the full install. Right? :/

 

Ok WILKO, just a few pointers for you, just in case you didnt know.

1: When you install from a disc, your installing all of the game data from the disc, your not downloading it from the internet. Day one patches will be downloaded, but there is nothing we can do about that.

2: If you buy the disc version, you cant then get a code for the digital version as well for free. Potentially you could give your disc version to a friend and keep your digital version.

3: 100mbps internet is not terrible internet, I am currently running on roughly 10mbps. So whenever I download anything it takes a loooong time. Your internet allows you to download roughly 10MB a second, so a 1Gig file should take less than two minutes,
for me though it takes roughly 16 minutes.

 

Thanks for the reply Shaggy2000. I made a typo for my internet speed, you're right it was 10mbps. I'm only on ADSL so it is painfully slow for downloads/streaming.

I'm guessing it is the day one data that is downloading then, I see my internet light flashing on my router for my Xbox on disc installs which usually indicates data transfer. So it must be that.

But in regards to disc version and digital version I think that if we could install the disc data before we get the disc, it'll definitely speed up the process, especially for poor buggers like myself who don't live in fibre optic areas...

You do not need to pre-load disc data over The Internet. The point of a disc is to ship the bits for the game to you on a piece of media.

The problems that Xbox One has with installation of disc-based titles have nothing to do with the disc being slow, they have to do with Xbox One trying to both install patches at the same time it's installing data from disc. To speed-up disc installs, disconnect
the Xbox One console from The Internet first. That way, the disc install will run as per normal (15-20MB/sec transfer rate from disc to HDD). Once that's complete, connect to The Internet and let the game update.

MS is working on the disc install problem. There was a recent survey in the preview app asking us to install a disc-based title and rate the installation process. I tested it using Forza 5 and it still took over two hours to install Forza 5, so it's not
fixed yet.
