Destiny Beta Reactions

This is not a flame or troll post, but something I've noticed going through different reviews of the beta.

There seems to be a split of opinions based on the system on which you played it. PS4 testers seems to be more excited overall than Xbox one testers. I know me and my group of friends tried it, and we were very split on it. but one thing we did agree on
is that the PvP isn't close to as fun as Titanfall. I'm wondering if Titanfall has dramatically decreased the hype for this game on Xbox, and it seeps into beta reactions a bit.

PS4 on the other hand, seems to still be lacking that "Must Have" game that Xbox has. I've seen comments as "This is the most I've used my PS4" in more than a couple places. In fact, Sony markets the game as it is an exclusive, so it's clear they feel the
need for a heavy hitter game.

I've been a fan of Bungie, and a fan of Halo, but I've never embraced the PvP. The Coop campaign is what I've always loved about the game, and while Destiny feels like it nailed the co-op nature (save for only being able to group with 2 other people), I
have a feeling that this story will be flat and uninteresting. I tried the PvP and, as I already said, it just isn't as fun as Titanfall.

I think the best example the amount of times I "record that" in Titanfall, and the only "record that" moment in three days of Destiny was when I did a corkscrew on my sparrow.

Anyway, I digress, but I did want to point out a little of how I felt the beta went. There is definitely a place for it on my hard drive, and will fulfill the coop campaign void that Titanfall left in my heart.

How do you feel? Did Titanfall indirectly affect your opinion of Destiny?

January beta to compete with Destiny beta?

 

No it directly effected my opinion of Destiny. Titanfall was not alone though, Borderlands, Halo, BioShock, DeadSpace... I read that the demo was 10% of the actual game. If so this will be a very short game. I'm highly doubtful that the game will be a must
have. I am hoping that I'm wrong though.

 

I was impressed! Loot with a FPS is enough to sell me, put that together with Bungie's Sci-Fi style and boom! I think the pvp seems more fun than titanfall, but to each their own and this was just a small taste

 

Hunter gets a throwing knife, ive prolly said record that more in this beta than any game yet, run slide stab 3 monsters thro the knife at a 4th blam

I liked overall but have done with a few extra days to play. The public evets were entertaining and more so if there were other bods milling about at the right moment.
I could not figure how to get a co-op game going with random folk but that might just have been me missing the obvious.

I was surprsed when I had talked to all the vendors how heavily the reputation system is biased towards p v p given that they have suggested a 10 year STORY arc which implies more of a co-op bias or at the very least an even handed approach. Not just 10
(more) years of me being stat boosting cannon fodder for folk who know whet they are doing!!

Overall enjoyed but spent so much time playing the wizard & the knife throwin maniac that I din't get to play the tank. Just as a parting question: are these the only classes?

 

The only effect Titanfall might have had is lessing the impact of the vertical movement in PVP. I was impressed with the different ways to come at a fight using glide but it isn't as awe inspiring after playing Titanfall. Beyond that the gameplay is so different
I expect to be spending time on both, probably more with Destiny because of the Co-op.

 

@SidneyTP A poster on another site said the was a fireteam option that was set to private by default that could have been changed to allow random people to join your fireteam. I can't confirm or deny it because I didn't come across the info until after the
beta. If it was in there tho it kind of sucks that Bungie didn't point that out. Not being able to do story mission with matchmaking was one of my only disappointments with the Beta, but it might have actually been possible I just didn't know it.

 

I had randoms join my fireteam once, and as for pvp i think they know its not gonna be big so they want to entice people, i doubt the majority of people are gonna play this pvp, it favors titan too much, fly around shoot rockets down till the ground smash
cools down, dont know about warlocks, but hunters are underpowered for pvp, at least up to lvl8

 

I enjoyed Titanfall but I disliked the lack of additional players involved in the fighting. I thought the graphics were great but the limited number of maps and areas left me wanting a little more. I enjoy playing the game but found that I was more interested
in playing Destiny during the BETA piece than Titanfall. Gamers are a different sort of people. There are gamers who play just one game and play it until they are completely sick of it or beaten it to the point of loosing interest. Others have limited free
time to play these games for several continued hours so when you do get to play you make the most of it. I thought Destiny has a wealth of potential for the average gamer. If you enjoy a game where you can do whatever you want as many times as you want and
progress at your own speed then this is a decent game. If you are not looking to become mixed with countless individuals seeking to maintain their personal records and death/kill ratios then this might be a game to loose a few hours just exploring. If Bungie
can continue to add additional areas to fight, explore, and roam, then this has immense potential. The thing which bothers me is that there are reports that DLC for the game will be different based on what system you own (PS4 vs XBOX One). I thought it would
be better to include the same material for all systems. It is like Bungie is punishing customers for their specific preference and selection. But I am not a "stat" type gamer. I just play the game and seek individuals who like to play just for fun and not
about to bash people for not performing as well as others. Which is one reason I enjoyed Titanfall because the smack talk was at a minimum compared to Battlefield or Call of Duty crews. Destiny has potential, it has the ability to turn some heads, it is really
what is their plan after release? DLC, new maps, new areas, new weapons, new missions, will be added or this is what you get?

 

Titanfall made Destiny seem S L O W when I first started playing. They definitely need to work with balancing the PvP system. I played as a warlock and kept getting one shot killed by other classes. The cool down time for the warlock's special ability
is WAY TOO long for PvP. That said, I did enjoy the beta, just wasn't anywhere near as compelling as I expected. It was like Halo and Mass Effect had a love child....a very slow lovechild.

I also noticed that when I first started playing, their was an option to "invite to fireteam" when interacting with other players. This option had disappeared by the time I logged back in after losing connection to the server. Another thing that annoyed
me was that I couldn't walk up to people and talk to them with the headset. I found several hidden areas I wanted to show others, but had no way of telling them.

 

I personally think they did a great job with the beta, and can't wait until the full release of Destiny. My friends and I really enjoyed everything we experienced, and are extremely excited, and hyped for the full game.

Looking forward to what is in store for us on 9/9/14.
