    Destiny 2 will launch on Steam but not Windows Xbox application


    Today, I wiped my computer clean with a fresh install of Windows 11. Now, I cannot get Destiny 2 to launch using the Xbox app on a PC with Windows 11. The Destiny 2 splash screen comes up, but I get the following error message: Failed to launch game. This error comes through the Battleye application which initially lead me to believe it was an error with Battleye. However, I can launch Destiny 2 with no issues from Steam. I've done multiple "repairs" through the Xbox app and tried to run the program was an Administrator with no change in results. I've also checked and there's no issues with the Windows firewall preventing Destiny 2 from launching. I've also downloaded the other Destiny purchases I've made using this Xbox account.

    This bothers me because I bought the Witch Queen and 30th Anniversary game packages through the Xbox app on Windows. It's not great that Destiny 2 will launch on Steam but not on the Xbox app.

    Any ideas?

    Hello Chaos_VX, have you checked if you have the latest version of Windows installed, at 21H2, because recently came out the latest update to Windows 10 and 11?

    Updates are often seen as optional, Microsoft released major fixes this week, and make sure you have the Xbox Companion App installed.

    If you haven't updated yet, click the link below, update, and make all subsequent security updates.

    I actually did find numerous Microsoft applications that needed to be updated. However, even after updating and restarting my PC the issue remains. I'm going to download Halo Infinite and see if I can duplicate the issue with another game.

    Yes, I understand that.

    My issue is not with porting but with the fact that Destiny 2 crashes at launch on Game Pass but not on Steam.

    Most recent update to Windows 11 broke Starfield on PC

    I can confirm that Bethesda Starfield cannot launch (via Steam) under Windows 11 23560.1000, 23565.1000 or 23570.1000.

    - Install any prior build/release of Windows 11 pre 23560.1000

    - Install Steam,

    - Install latest graphics drivers for nvidia/ati card,

    - Install all Windows updates prior to 23560.1000 or out-of-band updates,

    - Restart,

    - Install Starfield,

    - Steam -> Play -> application runs normally,

    - Restart,

    - Steam -> Play -> application runs normally,

    - Update to 23560.1000, 23565.1000, 23570.1000,

    - Restart,

    - Steam -> Play -> application exits immediately, no obvious failures show via procmon - no registry/file/device failures,

    - Check for / install any device driver updates, e.g. latest nvidia driver,

    - Restart,

    - Steam -> Play -> application exits immediately, no obvious failures show via procmon - no

    - Uninstall Starfield + Restart + Reinstall Starfield

    - Steam -> Play -> application exits immediately, no obvious failures show via procmon - no

    - Restart,

    - Steam -> Play -> application exits immediately, no obvious failures show via procmon - no,

    - Use Recovery -> Go Back to restore to previous windows build,

    - Restart,

    - Without reinstalling Starfield, Steam -> Play -> *application runs normally,

    I also observed that manually attempting to launch the executable also results in a simple termination during startup, and procmon/windbg doesn't show anything significant. While this may be a bug in Starfield's code, perhaps undefined behavior, it is clearly triggered by something that changed in Windows recently.

    I look forward to mocking you for replying with a form post listing steps to try.

    PS: With both 23560.1000 and 23570.1000 I have submitted Feedback reports that include recordings of the application attempting to launch.
