    Hi all just got my Halo 5 console & love it but have a question re: how to choose which drive to install content on. I know you can designate either the internal or an external drive to be the "default" location that downloads go to but is there a way to
    choose on the fly whether you want to download a game to the internal or an external? Or do you have to go into the settings every time you wish to switch the location you want content installed to?

    With the 360 it was simple, it gave you a choice of where you want the content installed but here it seems that things are much less simple (or am I an idiot?)

    Any help is appreciated.

    XB1 X sees external drive but can't play any game installed to it.

    Strange issue

    It sounds like it's only allowing the drive for media access, rather than games and apps.

    Did you try (a) a different usb port (b) a different usb cable (c) formatting the drive whilst connected to the xbox, setting the drive as the default install location and then downloading the smallest game you own and see if that installs to the drive ?

    I have 2 external drives, with my WD drive being set as default install location and games always download and install there by default. I'm also using an xbox one x, running on the "delta" insider preview dashboard.

    I have an external hard drive and before the game was install on the console hard drive and the DLC on the external.

    This night I changed the default install location and download the DLC for the third time.

    It's seems to work know.

    If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure that you have to keep changing it in your settings. I've found it pretty annoying personally.

    Thanks Goth Vampirella. Hopefully the "new xbox experience" will fix this, as well as other really odd UI applications.

    please try to install to a different location after updating the app. The new version coming any time allows you to designated the drive/folder to install on, and try a different location.
