Design Lab Controller not Charging with Play and Charge Kit

So the play and charge kit battery won't charge inside the design lab controller I just received the other day. It registers as connected via cable, however, the battery does not charge and the light does not light up to indicate charging (also verified
on the top right of the home screen of the Xbox). The battery charges inside my old controller though. So right now I have to use regular batteries; and the cable is "at the ready" as an emergency backup when in-game. Anyone else with a new design lab controller
having this issue?

The play and charge kit is just that a charge kit that allows you to play while charging. It does not turn it into a wired controller.

 

The random blinking light

If you have a play and charge kit and the controller is still charging when you turn off the Xbox 360, the system will stay on because it is charging the controller. I always forget and I have to go back and unplug.

So keep that in mind if you have wireless controllers with the Play and Charge Kit

 

Did you sync the controller?

 

Yes, I updated the controller firmware when I first received it

 

I just tried mine and I hit the sync button first then connected it to the play and charge kit and so far it is working fine.

 

Was using mine last night and it worked both connected and disconnected from the play and charge.

Thanks for the replies, especially BIGB EC! Of all things I just had to restart my Xbox since I use kinect to turn the console on and off...

 

I purchased two Design Lab controllers on the same order and neither work with the official Play and Charge Kit cable.

The cords will fit in the microUSB slot fine. I have to put pressure on the end of the cord connected to the controller to have it register. Once that pressure is removed the cord and controller is disconnected. Every other microUSB
cord I've tried appears to work AOK.

Disappointing to say the least as they are both official Microsoft products and the price of said product they won't work together.
