Dell S3221QS Monitor, HDR compatibility with Xbox Series X?

I've bought Dell S3221QS Monitor for Xbox Series X gaming because I found quite a few recommendations researching the Web. I was aware that HDR capabilities of this monitor are limited but I didn't expect it to be straight out incompatible with Xbox gaming.

Monitor is connected to Xbox using original HDMI cable provided with the console. I have tried both HDMI ports and I have tried to set monitor Smart HDR mode to "Desktop", "Movie HDR" and "Game HDR" but whatever I've tried, when I go to 4K TV Details on Xbox the message I get is the following:

Playing games: "Your TV setup doesn't support HDR10 for gaming. Games won't be shown in HDR."

It however also says that "TV supports 4K 10-bit at 24Hz" and "TV supports HDR 10 video"

So does this monitor support any kind of HDR gaming on Xbox since it has "Game HDR" mode?

Can you please tell me if the variable refresh rate is working on series x with this monitor ????

Somehow, magically it worked! I have tried for a month with all the possible settings and gave up... I went to "Video fidelity & overscan" section of Xbox settings, set "overrides" from "auto detect" to "HDMI", and reduced colour depth to 8 bits. Then I turned on all the options (HDR10, Auto HDR, 50Hz, 12bits color depth...) and then switched back "overrides" to "Automatic" and it worked... So basically I didn't change anything, I have just recycled it from automatic to manual and back to automatic... Now it shows that "TV" is good for HDR gaming. Thanx!

To play games with HDR support enabled your monitor must support HRD10 for gaming. Some monitors only support it for video playback (movies and other video sources).

You can check if your monitor is compatible with under the "General 4K TV details"

If your TV or monitor is compatible with HDR10 for gaming you'll see the message on the screen:

Playing games

> Your TV supports HDR10 for gaming

Do you have Freesync enabled, and if so please try disabling it

Yep, in compatible games that monitor can do 1080p at 120FPS with a Series X, as confirmed in this RTINGS review: -

I would shop around though, cos there may be better options for Xbox use at a similar price.
