Deleting my Gamertag but retaining my Microsoft account?

Okay, I'll try and keep this as simple as possible.

Recently, due to unfortunate circumstances, I am no longer in possession of the Xbox 360 I used to own. Although I had not used the Xbox 360 in a long time, as I have become bored of videogames, the Xbox 360 in question would automatically sign in to Xbox Live,
as far as I can remember.

Anyway, I received a text message on my mobile phone today from Microsoft, informing me that someone else might have accessed my Microsoft account. After recovering the account, I checked the recent activity on the account and was surprised to see that over
the past two days, there were attempts to access it from both Milan and Kiev, which is surprising, considering I live in Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom.

I believe that those two incidents and the recent loss of possession of my old Xbox 360 may be related somehow and I am growing very concerned that somebody may be attempting to use details of my Microsoft account which were present on that Xbox 360 to potentially
commit fraud. Identity fraud, financial fraud, that sort of thing. I do not remember if I had saved payment information on the Xbox 360 or not, although it is likely that I may have done.

I am under the impression that it is not possible to delete my gamertag but retain my Microsoft account, which I would like to keep a hold of, as I use it for email. Is there absolutely no way that this can be done, even though there may well be a great
security risk at hand? I understand that it is possible to link a gamertag to a different email address, but only on an Xbox 360, which I no longer have.

This is unfortunate, because if it was possible to do on other devices, such a PC, I could link the gamertag to a new Microsoft account which I could then quite happily delete.

Just to reiterate, I no longer care about videogames and I would be very happy to delete my gamertag. I have absolutely no intention of ever using it again and so I would not regret losing it, not one bit.

Could anybody please help me with this matter?

Transferring gamertag from one Microsoft Account to the other

Hi all,

The gamertag I'm using to post this () is one that I created on impulse as I did not know what it was about then. Now the situation is this:

Microsoft Account 1:

Microsoft Account 2: Free (no gamertag associated)

So how do I make it:

Microsoft Account 1: Free (no gamertag associated)

Microsoft Account 2:

So that I can create a new Xbox Live Gamertag on Microsoft Account 1 retaining all my achievements from my local offline Xbox account.

P.S. I know that I can do this by downloading the profile to my Xbox and wait for 30 days then change the associated Microsoft Account, but by then my holidays will be over so what's the point. I read somewhere from Xbox support that it is possible
to do it via Xbox.com? If so pls tell me. Thanks

 

Old gamertag shows up in paties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????

I changed my gamertag 2 days ago, but my old gamertag shows up in paties for some reason, ive tried deleting my cache deleting my account and re downloading it, singning out, everything.

 

Hi there, I would removed the passwords from the console remotely by using the steps at the following link:

support.xbox.com/.../manage-sign-in-preferences

This way you at least know they can't automatically sign-in to the console without the actual information so that should give you some piece of mind that they can't access it. Secondly I would contact Xbox phone support and see if they can help you change
the email address on the account to free up the want you'd like to continuing using.

As you've stated, there is no way to change the password yourself without the 360 console so phone support might be your only option:
