Deleting a Random Account for a Name Change?

I have been in the same position, unfortunately it is very unlikely such an original name will be deleted or 'up for grabs' again.

Something that helped me out was use https://checkgamertag.com/

This allowed me to play around with different names quickly without going through the process via the XBOX.

The only way it can be freed up is if the original owner changes it to something else or they do not sign into the account for 5 years (starting 2016) and it's freed up by the system. Otherwise there's no way to request it to be freed up. Keep in mind
that the gamertag system is in use on other Microsoft services, so even if it's not in use on an Xbox, it may be in use somewhere else.

Only in very rare cases, and through MS support itself, can an account be completely deleted.

In a case like this, the best scenario would be to use 800 points on the unwanted account, to change the name from the wanted one to something random.

This doesn't guarantee 100% success, as you would need to spend another 800 pts on the wanted account to change to that name, but sometimes there is a wait before they allow a previously used name to be used by another account.

The free gamertag change happens only if you were given one of the random gamertags when you first create your account. From the looks of things, your gamertag is not a system-generated random name. Perhaps you made your account before Xbox began giving
people random gamertags? As it is a custom name, the only way to change it will be through a paid gamertag change.
