deleted game captures after 30 days stored on xbox console

I regularly take screenshots and captures on when I'm playing my games and I store them on my console storage, not uploading to xbox live or anything. I've been noticing that when I look for captures in my stored on my console, after 30 days or something they've disappeared. Screenshots are still there from up to a year ago but I can't find any of my captures at all since within the last 30 days.

I hope that this isn't actually a thing that xbox has implemented or anything and that I can still retrieve all my missing captures!

If it makes it any easier, I own the first model of xbox one console

Game pics/captures that haven’t had any views or engagement may be deleted at some point, you might want to back up your pics. If you wish to keep certain captures permanently, You should save them to OneDrive or an external drive for example. I will list the steps below regarding this matter. Also if you have reached capacity for storage of captures on Xbox Live, it will delete the oldest ones first to make room for the new ones uploaded.

To back up your pics/ capture you need to:

Upload captures from Xbox Live to OneDrive from your console

Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then go to Broadcast & capture.
Select Recent captures > See All.
Select the list view button on the right to display your captures in a list.
Select the check box next to the captures you want to upload.
Select the Upload to OneDrive button to begin uploading.

Upload captures from Xbox Live to Google Drive from your PC

Open the Xbox app on your PC.
Sign in to the app using your Microsoft account.
Select the Captures icon on the left menu panel.
Select On Xbox Live to view captures you’ve uploaded to Xbox Live.
Select the Download button to download the captures locally to your PC. These will be stored in the Videos folder on your C drive.
Upload your local files to Google Drive or another storage location

Hey there! So, unfortanetely, these cannot be turned off, but they are deleted after 30 days! If for some reason they arent deleting after 30 days, plesse follow these steps!

settings > preferences > Broadcast & Capture > Automatically Upload > Captures by me

in there should be your fix to turn on auto delete after 30 days!

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your game captures, especially those memories with your friend.

Microsoft implemented a policy starting September 27, 2023, where game captures stored on the Xbox network are deleted after 90 days. Unfortunately, once these captures are deleted from the Xbox network, they cannot be recovered.

Sorry for the inconvenience..

Have you checked the local storage of your console ? If they were stored on your console, they might be still there. Locally stored clips are not affected by the 90-day deletion policy.

You can upload up to 10 GB of captures to the Xbox network. Once you reach those limits, you’ll need to delete existing captures to upload new ones.

Any game clip or screenshot uploaded to the Xbox network that gets no views in 30 days will be deleted. Viewing it yourself counts as a view and saves a capture from deletion.

Captures that don't get uploaded to the Xbox network will remain on the console they were recorded on.

You can also store your screenshots and videos on your PC, OneDrive, and your phone.
