Delete/switch gamertag but keep email address?

Have been playing with an offline account on Xbox 360 for a few years and decided I wanted to make it an Xbox Live account. Tried to sign up but apparently my primary email address - which is a hotmail address - already has some generic gamertag connected
to it.

I want to delete that gamertag and then convert my offline account using that email address.

Or failing that, just switch that gamertag to a new email address which would then free up my original one for this new Live account.

But I contacted Xbox support through chat and they said that there was no way for me to delete or switch my gamertag without it deleting my email address.

Surely, they were mistaken?

Does anybody have a way to do this?

Delete/transfer gamertag

Hi,

Currently my gamertag is under an old email address.

This email will be deleted in a period, so I want to put my current email address under my gamertag.

Though i noticed that my current email address also has a gamertag(Don't even remember creating this).

How do i delete this gamertag on my main emailaddress and then transfer my genuin gamertag + profile + achievements to it?

I've been searching on the forums but i keep getting to ' switch email' but that won't work cause my emailaddress allready has a gamertag.

Deleting an xbox live account

You cannot delete an Xbox Live account (Gamertag), but what you will need to do is move the Gamertag to a different Microsoft Account (email address), to free up the email address you want.
