I recently bought a pre-owned Xbox One and I downloaded my Xbox Live account. I added a prepaid $25 gift card so I could get Rocket League, when I went to pay for it, it wouldn't let me pay for it because my account isn't an adult account on the Xbox. So
I looked at the Family settings, and the only adult account isn't mine. The account isn't downloaded so I can't sign in to it so I can make my account an adult account. How do I make my account an adult account and delete the family? The adult account GamerTag

I would suggest doing a factory reset on the console to remove all information of the previous owner and just set the console up as new. support.xbox.com/.../reset-console-to-factory-defaults

I'm aware of one account at a time. They have their own account as a family member under mine

There Xbox is set as home Xbox.

As previously stated this has never been an issue before

I have gone to a family member's account (also an adult), and successfully changed the Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety settings. I then immediately signed out of their account and back into mine, and was still unable to change my own settings.

to achieve that each user will need their own Xbox Live Account(s) (Microsoft account and seperate email)

If that currently isn't the case that it's advised that each person has their own account.

One downside though is that any achievements save games etc, can't be transferred to another account. (Some games like Fortnite have progress connected to seperate accounts, which can be connected to a different Xbox Live Account)

Not sure I understand the distinction between a child account and a Family Plan. I've had a xBox Live Gold account for years ... I am the primary account holder, and it's the only Live account on our console (kids have their own profiles, but mine is the
only one with Live access).

Is there a way to determine the account type through the console?
