Delete auto-gamertag, associate existing one

My Microsoft account is associated with an gamertag I don't use. As my real one has a lot of history I'd like to delete the dummy and connect the real one. It seems this is not possible, especially if I don't have an xbox anymore? Will this design flaw be
fixed some time soon?

how do I cancel/delete an old gamertag that is no longer used from my windows live ID so I can associate my windows live ID to a different gamertag - I cannot do so with the existing old unused gamertag associated with my windows live ID

Delete a Gamertag from my Live ID

Hi,

I recently created a new Live ID using my primary email address that I plan to keep as my primary email from an obsolete email from many years ago. In the process of trying to figure out how to move my existing gamertag over to this new account, I accidentally created
an auto-generated gamertag on my account. Now I am having trouble moving over my primary gamertag to this new Live ID because it is already associated with this auto-generated one. How can I delete this auto-generated gamertag from my account so I can bring
over my primary one?

Any help would be great - thanks!

Hey there RegentGerste140!

I'm afraid there currently isn't a way to change the Microsoft Account without an Xbox 360 console.

The process for this change would be to create a third Microsoft Account and change the "dummy" Gamertag with this new MSA. Doing this will free up the Microsoft Account you're wanting to use which you can then move to the Gamertag you would prefer to use.

If you have a friend with an Xbox 360, that is going to be your best step for changing the attached MSA.

If you mean cancel your Xbox Live Gold auto renewal then go here:

support.xbox.com/.../cancel-xbox-live-gold-subscription

If you are talking about deleting your account (this only deletes the account from your Hard drive, it will still exist on Xbox Live) then:

Go to system settings

Go to storage

Select the profiles you wish to delete: there are 2 options delete profile and delete profile and items. if you choose the second option it will delete all gamesaves associated with your account from your harddrive.

And if you just want to change your gamertag:

A gamertag is linked to a Microsoft account. You can create a new account and associate a new gamertag with it, but all accounts must have a unique email address. This email address can be an existing address, but it can't already be associated with another
account.

To recap... one email address = one gamertag. But you don't need to create a new email address.

each gamertag is associated with an specific account and to use an existing one for you, the other account must change gamertag first

Odd. Try deleting the existing profile (profile only; not content associated with it) and download the profile again.
