One would think there would be an app for that, or?

    Some discussion here:

    http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/hardware__services/f/3817/t/1676295.aspx

But not sure what the conclusion is?

Come to think about it when people have lag issues, like now on sept update as I read on forum.

At some point it becomes fragmented seems inevitable in my view.

Leaving windows pc without defrag for longer periods like a year the it takes an awful long time to run as well.

Isn't there some windows 8 core in x1?

    :)

  3. Defrag not working after June 2012 Update

Before the latest dashboard update, there was a simple way to defrag the hard disk: by turning on the console with the controller, and holding RB, RT and Y (soon after the controller is recognized during the intro logo).

Doing so, the console would restart before the dashboard appeared on screen, and the Hard Disk is defragged.

Now this method doesn't work anymore:

if you turn on the console with the controller, the Xbox 360 won't recognize the controller until the dashboard is fully loaded. The problem is that, since the console recognizes the controller so late, you can't do the defrag anymore.

I didn't find any other way to defrag the hard disk.

In short, it's not. The Xbox One uses are more advanced file system than what the Xbox 360 uses. It was designed to make sure fragmentation would not be an issue.

These performance issues after the latest update that a small number of users are experiencing have no connection with hard drive fragmentation. I game would not work fine one day and then bad the next after a system update.

Windows is an entirely different when it comes to slow downs and system performance. The Xbox One isn't like a PC. PC's come in all types of configurations with different CPU speeds, different types of hard drives etc. In any case, ever since windows Vista,
its has had its own form of background defrag which does the job perfectly well. If your PC is becoming sluggish at boot up, its not because of fragmentation. But this is going off-topic.

  5. Thanks. I know some os have a filetype that is called contiguous, and that might be used let's say for xbox os and just reserve a much bigger area that suffice for future size of the file as well. And all clusters would be allocated over a range of cylinders
    for that particular file.

And it's possible that devs for games also are allowed to install such files that are important for performance and likely not to change all the time.

Would you know about a readup on this?

Don't forget that every entry here on forums probably represent thousands of users out there, so how small a number may not be so small in the real world. It was also a small number of people compared to sold units that had drive failures after an update
two years ago. Same thing with UC3 on playstation four years ago - and why I sold my PS3 over how this was ignored by Sony.

One of the reasons I chose an xbox is actually that I feel MS is more responsive and have a dialog that show they care, at least than Sony do. So I hope I didn't buy my x1 right in the middle of performance issues after updates. Xbox live is incredibly slow
compared to 360 version, that is all I know so far.

    Fantastic Game

You confuse REAL tanks with the cardboard versions used in this game.

Every tank performs better in the real world than its simulation does, in the WoT.

Of course, in the REAL world, the tanks obey ALL of the laws of physics.

The truth, the WHOLE truth and nothing but the truth are 3 different statements, in this guy's mind.

    Good luck.

Stop hating over the Xbox One

The Truth is not hate, the Truth is the Truth. I don't see what is going on as hate, as see as consumers electing not to buy crap. This system is bad for a whole set of reasons, don't let the whole used/lent games be the focus, the system has major issues.

Any one else think Kinect-captured facial expressions are awesome?

    "you are a downer."

It's neither positive or negative, it was the truth in 2010, it's the truth now. I mean if you like kids games and dance games, I see nothing wrong with those with the Kinect. The truth is just the truth. At the end of the day, to play what I would consider
adult type games, say with action and gets you into the game... you are going to need a real input device.
