  1. Definition of a core gamer?

I never thought that I was labeling myself but that others were miss labeling me. I see now that is essentially one and the same. After all how can you feel miss labeled unless in some part of your mind you've already
    labelled yourself.

Very astute, IMO. The conundrum I find in all of this is; if someone is going to label him or herself, or begins to wonder what label they fall under... would it change their gaming
    habits?

'Oh, if I played a few more game types, or more often, I'd actually be a hardcore gamer'... would be a sad scenario if you ask me. I'm sure it isn't hard to imagine there are more
than a few people who would actually do [something like] that in order to 'fit in' where they wanted. But to what end? It's all subjective anyhow.

I enjoy playing my games, I'm a gamer and that's good enough for me. If someone else wants to put a label on what kind of gamer I am, they will be the only one who acknowledges
said label. Besides, the time I'd spend trying to find out what kind of gamer I am could've been time I spent actually playing... OMG! That must mean I'm a hardcore gamer! lol Definition of a core gamer? ;)

  2. There is one more label:

(Everyone knows a few of these! Unfortunately I'm related to one.)

The No-Lifer Gamer - One who plays games from the time they wake up until the time they go to sleep and even then only get 4-6 hours of sleep on a good night.. Sometimes they are employed but only because they aren't able to buffalo anyone into being an
enabler. They have almost no discernible social life. They are generally so unhappy about real life that a virtual life is preferable. They psychologically assume the identity of the main character in whatever game they are playing. The characters conquests
become their conquests. They fly into a rage or have a panic attack if anything comes between them and their game.

I'm just a gamer I guess. I play what games I like on the system I have. I could care less who has what system. If you have a game I have and we both like it or hate it I will talk with them. I just don't get the big deal of "core" or "hardcore" or what
ever you want to call it. I thought the reason most people play games is because they like it. Same reason some golf, build models, rebuild old cars and stuff like that.

@Fyerball..I totally agree with you there and everyone who is similar to that...I have fun regardless of the console i'm playing on as that's gaming and what a gamer does..i bet i could still enjoy the Virtual Boy lol although not in a rush to try again.

  5. Have no problems with the labels, kinda helpful in some cases. Like Destiny I want to play with players who play like or similar to me. Don't want to team with the guy who wants to fly thru as quickly as possible just to get a reward. I want to play with
other people who just want to play to have fun and enjoy the game, so "labels" can help us find like minded gamers. Sidenote to Bizarro, be nice to the "No-Life"Gamer. Some of have issues we just need some help working thru. Your post (well aside from the
rage part) pretty much described my daily routine before a chance meeting with the lady who would became my wife. I had/have issues with socializing that I'm still have to a large degree now it was no fun when I wasn't indulging in games back in the day.

I have no issues with whatever label people choose to give themselves (casual/core/hardcore) but in the end we're all gamers. Its been my hobby for close to 30 years with my first console being the 2600 also. I just love this form of entertainment and it
is one I hope to be still playing well into my old age.

I guess its because of this love, that I hate how gaming has become more about specs than the actual enjoyment of games. I should be able to talk and discuss opinions without being told that I'm wrong or my choice in system is rubbish.

  7. Ahhhhhhh, this ol' chestnut.

People would consider me 'hardcore' but I don't think I am, I just really love playing games. It's like, my parents love reading and they do a lot of that in their spare time, but I don't consider them hardcore readers, they just love to read!

  8. Definition of a core gamer?

I wish I loved to read. I did before college. Sometime during my junior year I would open a book to start studying and immediately I would slip into a coma-like nap. It was almost as if I had reading related Narcolepsy. Still, to this day, if I'm having
trouble falling asleep, I just IMAGINE myself reading and I'm out like a light.

It doesn't matter what type of games you play, we are ALL gamers Definition of a core gamer? :)

The only reason that I can think of that the term " Core Gamers " would be used would be as a focus group for console & device makers / developers who play video games are their primary source of entertainment Definition of a core gamer? :)

  11. When you really think about it, you can classify gamers (and anything else really) any way you want. Using gamers specifically, I can even classify gamers based on the specific games or types of games they play. For example, there are CoD and Halo gamers,
both of which can be considered FPS gamers. Classifying a gamer as core, midcore, or hardcore works exactly the same way. They can be classified one way, in other ways, in ways that work for you, in ways that work for me, and so on... It's ever changing and
evolving and is therefore subject to each and every individual and open to interpretation.

The ONLY thing that is set into stone is whether you ARE a gamer or not. And yes, the example of the grandmother playing Solitaire IS considered a gamer. It boils the definition of a gamer down to its simplest terms - if you like to play games (whether it
be video games, board games, tabletop roleplaying, card-games, party games, etc.), you're a gamer. Definition of a core gamer? ;)

Lol I think it goes beyond jusy previous Gens of Consoles. Some of us have been around longer than that but would still be described as casuals and fanboys. Im just a gamer nothing more to it.

  14. I don't really bcare what people choose to define themselves and I won't do the same to anyone else.

That said, I'd say I'm a hardcore gamer. I stayed up all night hunting poe souls in Twilight Princess, I am going to hundred percent Arkham City again, and oh god, my notebook of monster hunting tallies for Final Fantasy X.

Let's not forget my almost eight hr day binges of splinter Cell and Gears of War back in the day.

I would put it at the "core" gamer will fall into the highest percentage of what everyone across the board is doing. The middle guys... XB1, you have gamers only... you have some that use it just for the TV apps.. and you have some that do both... what
MS will market towards the most (or any company really) is where the most players (money) will be.... those are the core gamers... now hardcore gamers.. still have no clue what that means really... do you not play the same games as me? so you play them
with more "force" with super abilities or something... I dont get it... to me.. a hardcore gamer is like a Lionel train collector.... they have a basement with a complete set up with houses, working lights, waterfalls and trains trains trains and dress up
like a conductor on Sundays to play with their toys...
