Defending someone?

It's probably a stupid question, but here it is: Can you get suspended/banned for defending someone?

Without naming anyone, someone whose clips/screenshots I happen to like, sometimes she gets accused of being a catfish. Which is completely untrue. I know there are real catfish out there, but my friend isn't one of them. So when somebody comments saying
that she's a catfish, I say "(Gamertag) is not a catfish, why are you being rude?" or something along those lines.

But to be crystal clear, my responses NEVER contain swearing, or any sort of harassment towards the person I'm replying to. I've read the code of conduct/terms. I've made it a rule of mine to always stay calm and rational, never getting overly angry about
things.

Speaking of which, I think it's completely unbelievable that some female gamers get accused of being fake. Some catfish are out there, but when real female gamers get called fake? It's unfair. I'm honestly getting so sick of it. And I'm just thinking of
stopping from even trying to defend my friend(s) anymore, because some people refuse to listen to reason. Harassment is why I don't play online multiplayer anymore.

Any answers are appreciated. Some people have claimed that they were suspended by xbox enforcement for doing nothing, or that they were suspended because multiple reports were filed against them (called "mass reporting") and I hope that is only a myth. I
just need some answers/advice...

It doesn't matter if you're doing for a good cause, if you happen to violate the code of conduct you will have to carry on with the consequences, I mean you can respond something very light as you say that you don't insult anybody, you're good to go but
that doesn't mean that the other side could report you, even if nothing happens is very risking.

One of the firsts Internet rules I learned was: Don't feed the trolls.

The best thing to do is not get involved, but if you do say something, as long as it doesn't violate the code of conduct, then you can't be suspended just for speaking to someone. The enforcement team investigates every complaint they receive and will
only issue a suspension if they determine you have done something to violate the code of conduct. They do not issue bans based on a quantity of reports.

Although you clearly have the best intentions, the person on the other end, may likely take offense and think otherwise, maybe even resorting to counter reporting you as well. My best advice (which is also found in the

Xbox Community Standards), is not to retaliate at all. Utilise the tools given to avoid suspect/troublesome players (mute or block), and don't engage.

Our Enforcement Team will investigate the entire situation and possibly take action on anyone involved in communications, depending on the severity of the report.

Also, It would be awful to get a suspension for something that didn't involve you in the first place. If you choose to become involved that's a risk you agree to take on.
