Defective console past warranty help!

So I've screwed up...I've had an Xbox One S for maybe 2 yrs and have barely used it. When I first got it I had video issues and Microsoft sent me a new HDMI cable. I thought that fixed the issue, but it definitely hasn't. I get a video signal usually from
the home screen but as soon as something demanding like a movie or game is loaded the signal flickers in and out and it's unusable. It seems like an HDMI cable issue but now that I think about it if it works almost ok from the home screen...maybe it's a video
card issue?

What can I do? repairs cost pretty much just as much as a new console (through Microsoft) and I've literally barely used this one (life has been busy!). I've tried swapping out cables etc.

Any advice is appreciated!

Have you tried testing it on another TV or a Monitor? I had this issue once before and it was the TV's input. It was an older tv and the input was a little bent inside preventing it from getting the proper connection.

If the console still seems to do it, try checking for updates to see maybe if it's missing one. Also check the consoles ports to see if its filled with dust or if anything is bent.

If it's just as expensive as a new One S to fix the problem through customer service then it may be time to buy a new one and invest in a 2 year warranty from a store that sells them. Sometimes there is issues with consoles and they defective and that we
cannot fix and the only option is to replace it.

Speaking to support, they're telling me the firmware is defective and the console needs repairing. 'You can process a repair order through myservice.xbox.com' fee applicable or not depending on warranty, mine is of course past.

Any advice on the warranty situation. (I am past my gamestop defective warranty) I know from experience that the refurbished controllers usually come with more issues. Should I roll the dice or just play on with this controller. Or is there any way to get a brand new controller with my warranty?

did you register the controller?

go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices/ and select Add Device then fill in the details on the form and it will then update the warranty status
