Default storage device

I would like my 360 to download games, apps and title updates to my external drive but whenever I download something it always goes to my internal drive.

I have a feeling my internal drive has a bad sector because quite often downloads will fail when there is a certain amount of space left. It's as though it's whenever it tries to write to a certain part of the drive it fails. Anyway because of this I just
want everything to automatically go to the external drive but can't find the option to do it.

A year or two ago my 360 used to asked me what storage device to save downloads to. But doesn't do this anymore for some reason. The only time I can actually select a storage device is when download is waiting in the download queue.

So does anyone know how to set the default storage device?

Hi there,

you can change your default storage device so that games etc will by default be stored on the specified device (which can be your external drive)

I don't know the exact location but if I recall correctly it's somewhere located at:
System > Settings > System > Storage.

You should be able to select/specify the default storage device.

Would there be a way to change the primary storage device for downloads?

nope the system will always download to the default storage device that came with the system.

 

there isnt a setting to set default storage at this time. i dont know if it will be implemented down the road or not.
