  1. Decoupling the hdr setting from the 4k setting - hdmi 2.0

Hi, I have an LG OLED TV and an Optoma beamer - both with HDMI 2.0. When I plug in my PC or laptop, I can select 1080p120 with HDR using Windows, but I can't do that with my Xbox Series X because the HDR setting there is tied to "allow 4k". So for games that support 120hz, I have to manually disable "Allow 4k" to play the game in 120hz (e.g. Rocket League, Battlefield 5). Then when I want to play a game like Assassins Creed Odyssey again (4k60 HDR), I have to manually enable the box again in the menu. On the one hand, this is super inconvenient to do every time - here it would need a setting where you can set it for each game individually, whether you want 60hz or 120hz. Secondly, it means that I have to play Rocket League and Battlefield in SDR to enjoy 120hz, even though Windows and Playstation can easily combine 1080p with 120hz and HDR.

There will still be plenty of gamers who haven't bought a TV with HDMI 2.1 yet, and that's the only reason I won't. So please do me a favor and do away with the pointless pairing of 4k and HDR.

    Thanks!

    :)

HDR dark dull and washed out

I assume you are using an Xbox One S/X, which supports 4K/HDR.

Some 4K TV's only display 4K/HDR through one HDMI port. Is this the case with yours? You can also check your TV settings to make sure 4K(UHD)/HDR/HDMI 2.0 is enabled over the HDMI port. Verify that HDR is enabled in your Xbox display settings (set Color
depth to 10-bit, ensure HDR is enabled in the advanced settings).

Since the PS4 Pro seems to be getting HDR color over one of your HDMI ports, what happens if you were to swap it with your Xbox? Do you get your HDR colors back?

My games won't show 4k or hdr when the Xbox says its enabled

On your TV, you have to check a couple of things

the 4K is usually only on the HDMI 2.0 ports, so make sure that you have your HDMI plugged in there.

Secondly, check that your TV's HDMI settings is set to Enhanced mode and not compatibility mode.

once that is all done, you should see the 4K and HDR being applied as needed in the games. The homepage of the console will be in 4k once you set the resolution, but HDR is per title enabled

    Hi

    Please follow this

for 4K and HDR issues but initial check I would be is to make sure you have set the HDMI port you plug you Xbox One S into is set to 2.0 and your using the supplied HDMI lead.

No 4K without HDR (xbox one x)

On the Xbox One S/X: HDR requires 4K, but 4K does not require HDR.

Are you disabling HDR through your TV menu, or the Xbox display settings? If you're disabling HDR through the TV menu, this may be toggling your HDMI port from version 2.0 to 1.4. 4K resolution is not supported on Xbox if it is plugged into an HDMI port
running version 1.4 specs, and will drive 1080p/SDR at most. If you disable HDR through the Xbox display settings (found in advanced settings menu), it should simply be running 4K without HDR from there.

If input lag is a huge concern, check if your TV has a "Game Mode," probably located somewhere in the TV's picture settings. This disables some (likely subtle) image post-processing features on the TV to reduce input lag.

I did try that. My projector displays HDR from pretty much every other source except my Xbox One.
