As usual ( and as always I'm not having a go at anyone ) when Microsoft announce anything you have 2 sides of the argument ( especially on these forums ) ...

1: The crowd that will dismiss anything Microsoft do or plan to do out of hand, I mean god forbid this DX12 will actually improve things, I just don't think their ego could handle this.

2: The crowd that believe that everything Microsoft do or plan to do will turn to gold and be the next big thing.

Chances are the truth will be somewhere in the middle of the two?

Personally from what I've read and I don't really understand it all tbh but it sounds optimistic, quite a few developers have said it will make things easier and improve things so that's good enough for me.

Tbh, it wouldn't bother me if it didn't improve anything as I'm perfectly happy with the games now. I do though believe it will make a big difference, probably won't be noticable this year but give it a year or two.

I think that's accurate. I firmly believe DX12 will bring significantly better performance to the PC gamers in the future. I'm not sure where that leaves the consoles.

The biggest performance gains on the recent bench are using a 600 dollar gpu with diminishing returns on lower end gpu's. I could see PC gaming getting very expensive again as Nvidia makes new cards to make the most of DX12 but current hardware is going
to get left out in the cold.

Like Mr Goat said, I think it will be a year or two before we see these improvements.

But even without DX12 etc, consoles get better with time, developers learn new tricks but again like Mr Goat I'm happy with the way things are now.

Graphically for example, look at Ryse Son of Rome ( I know a lot didn't like the game ) in my opinion it's still the best looking new gen game I've seen and that was a day one game, what will we see a year or two down the line?

    Good times ahead I think.

  9. what difference does that make for the games that are already out? nothing. why? because they cant fix that without some major reprogramming/updates to the games themselves. newer games coming out after the improved esram control... probably will see an
improvement, along with development now including the directx 12 api.

    we'll see.

So let me get this straight, someone well known in the industry who actually makes games and knows there stuff in a proven games developing arena say positive things about DX12. On the other hand an amateur gaming rig builder says that it's rubbish and
the developer is wrong in what he says. Mmmmm .

    @f00xm4n

They didn't give us real world benches, they gave us benches from a game engine designed specifically to bench DX12 that doesn't even have a game currently being developed for it. It was nothing more than a tech demo.

Stardock has a new game engine (Nitrous) which apparently the Star Swarm bench is based on yet that engine isn't being used for the two games they are currently developing.

If they wanted to impress people and since they have had access to DX12 for so long they should have benched Galactic Civilizations III or Sorcerer King using a DX12 build. The games are currently available in early access using DX11 so we could have definitely
seen how big of an impact DX12 would make in the case of those two games.

I firmly believe DX12 will lead to improvements but this 600 percent garbage that's getting thrown around is ridiculous.

I keep saying this and I'll say it again......Why Stardock? They make 4x games. Where are the developers of the FPS's and action games where these promised huge advances will be much more relevant?

GG the PS4 has in some instances better resolution, but how they get there is a different matter, DF aside there are more sites doing independent comparisons and are picking out alarming texture problems on the PS4 to allow it to get to these higher resolutions.
I have many examples but lets not turn this thread into a comparison and have it blocked.

The reason for the better handling of textures on the xbox one is the ESRAM as your looking at over 200GB/s bandwidth while CPU and GPU are working away (real working code) however the draw backs are developers were trying to render the whole screen in ESRAM
and not stream it (which the november SDK unlocked from preview) aka tiled resources, the other very interesting leak was the xbox can choose which parts of the screen and memory to use. for example you could use main memory for the bottom 15% and the top
15% of screen (usually ground and sky) and 70% in ESRAM.
