Deceased family member owns the XBox Live account

My mom set up my XBox account under her Microsoft username and password when I was in elementary school. For the past fifteen years, I've played under an XBox live account that was linked to her Microsoft account.

Unfortunately, she died in December of last year. Last week I was randomly logged out of the XBox account and I don't know the password to log back in. I can't reset the password because the link to reset the password gets sent to her email, which I also don't know the password to.

I would just start a new account, but this account has years worth of purchases that add up to thousands of dollars of games and content. I would have to buy all of that back again if I started a new account, not to mention all the game progress I would lose.

All I need to do is switch the email associated with the account over to my email instead. Is there any process through which I can gain control of this account again?

Two ways to tell if he is in a family as a child account already.

Sign into his account at account.microsoft.com/family if there is no other family members then he is an adult in his own family.

Sign into his account on the xbox console go into settings and under the account tab go to family settings and go down to manage family members and it will tell you if there are any family members in the family there.

What is a primary and secondary Family Pack account?

The Xbox LIVE account used to purchase a Gold Family Pack membership is the primary Family Pack account. All other Xbox LIVE accounts associated with the Family Pack membership are secondary accounts.
