debit card issues

So, I had an Xbox Gold auto-renew setup for the last couple of years. This was linked to my debit card. When that card expired, the bank sent me a new card and it has the same number, but different expiration and security numbers. After a few days of trying
to add the new card, I called Xbox customer support and was told my card and bank account are now banned. They said my only option is now the pre-paid subscription cards. Has anyone else had this happen? Also, wouldn't that happen to everyone when their card
expires? Does anyone else have the same number when they get a new card or is that just me? So frustrated because I was happy with the service prior to now. I refuse to start a different bank account just for Xbox.

I use Debit and Gift cards. Sometimes the gift cards can be had for cheap. Otherwise I just my debit card. Its been on file for like 5 years and never had an issue. MS security is top notch.

 

Did they give you a reason why it was banned? I think if it were me I would try a different rep and see if I could get more information.

 

Basically, I was told that the card number cannot be re-used. I can understand that. This doesn't really explain why I couldn't attach my bank account to it, though. After some time to think about it, I guess it's not the end of the world to use the pre-paid
cards, but that's why I did the auto renewal in the first place. I guess I could ask for another debit card, it's just inconvenient. Maybe I'll try a different rep like you say.

 

This might be an obvious question seeming how you must've tried this from the start, but did you swtich all your new information from the card that you just got, over to your Xbox? I believe you stated that you did and you were having trouble doing it, but
Xbox has to give a reason as to why they banned your card, I'm sad to say I have not EVER heard of this happening to someone such as you. Ecstasy, this might be a blant and more irritating way of doing things but you may should just get a new debit card.

However, if none of this was helpful then the next time I will try to revamp my opinions up to be a suitable answer to your solution.

 

Oh yeah. I tried multiple times on the console and the website. When I get a chance I'll try customer service again. If I still can't get anywhere, I'll probably think about getting a new card. Thanks for the responses!

 

I've had this happen before. There is a simple solution but it does require Support as the Microsoft System for attached Payment Methods is a little notorious for being difficult to remove with issues.

First, if your current CC or Debit Card is expired and you have a new CC in the same name and number you will need a second card (any Prepaid Card with even zero on it will work if no pending charges are due). Next, add the new Prepaid CC and contact Support.
Now Support will be able to remove the expired CC if you can not do this from
Microsoft Billing. Finally, you will be able to add back the original CC and remove the Prepaid (temporary CC).

If in the future you see your CC is going to expire soon, you can add a temporary CC and remove the original CC without issues (before charges are applied to it). You can then add the new (not expired CC) back to the Account. The MS Billing side really needs
a lot of work and always had but once you understand how they are trying to protect charges from their end and what you need to do with your Account, it gets a little easier.

Follow the above advice and all should be good. Good luck and if you have questions just ask.

 

That makes sense. It does seem like something Microsoft should have addressed by now, but I can see how a giant company takes time to make changes. I will try that and see if it works. Thanks!
