An individual who partakes in spending $150 a month on illegal botnets to attack through other player’s VPNs on a game I play. He has had a recent falling out with a crew I’m affiliated with that plays the same game online. He also manipulates network traffic via lag switch/freeze lag software to gain an unfair advantage. I’m usually protected against the rampant DDOSing that goes on within the game I play by using cloudflare’s WARP+ unlimited, but as of yesterday my PC is down and I do not feel comfortable playing the game that I love without any protection. Sad how these sort of illegal activities is so rampant on Xbox live. This being said, what is the most appropriate way of reporting such a malicious player who attacks others Xbox players home networks? This individual has grouped up with a group of DDOSers who have a discord where they share the ip addresses of other players within the online community. How do I report this in a matter that ensures the enforcement team will take me seriously and carry out a serious and much needed investigation into this problem so I can feel safe to play may favorite game again

    :)

because i am an it technician and a fully qualified network technician, been doing this job for several decades. Microsoft CANNOT SEE A DDOS attack on a user as it is not going through their network, DDOS attacks have been used since the inception of the internet, the original xbox had it, 360 had it, xbox one had it and now series, on psn it happens, on pc too, your are just flooding someone's connection with data, this data is being sent straight to the victim via the internet not via Microsoft networks.

unless Microsoft can prove it or have solid evidence they cannot ban anyone for ddos as they do not have the ability to see it happen, it is impossible for Microsoft to see it or detect it as it does not involve the Xbox network, ddos is a direct attack and does not go through the Xbox network.

with ddos attacks you have to report it to the isp, they in turn have to log it and investigate it and it can lead to prosecution, it comes under cyber terrorism.

the only time Microsoft can do anything is when the attacker messages the victim through Xbox network. if someone is reported for ddos then Microsoft cannot ban them for that as Microsoft have no evidence and they cannot ban on circumstantial or by word of mouth.
How are you so sure that this is how things work at Microsoft’s enforcement department? Starting to sound like you work there. If you do, I’d take what you said to heart and follow what you’re saying completely…. But I’m not seeing any credentials tied to your name that would convince me… I appreciate your effort into trying to help me with this issue, but simply cannot believe just anything that anyone says without some sort of identifying credential. If I had to claim to be the best COD player of all time, I should expect a certain level of scrutiny.

Hello , sorry to hear you're having trouble with your games.

DDoS attacks are illegal and could result in jail time for the person doing it. If you are the victim of an attack please unplug your modem/router for 60 seconds to reset it and powercycle your console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down. After that contact your ISP and let them know about the attacks and request an IP Address change. They will investigate the attacks from their end.

As for the person that's doing this, please be sure to report them by going to their bio and selecting Report or Block and follow the instructions provided. The PET will get this report and investigate the claim then take any necessary actions on the account.

This individual verbally speaks about his illegal activities recklessly in Xbox live parties on a daily basis. I know for a fact voice communication is recorded which include Xbox live parties. I know an individual who had gotten a permanent ban due to the nature and context of what he had said verbally in a party before. I just want to know what the best way to report this person. Do I report it under voice communication? Other? Or should I report it under Terrorism?

Not true, I know of someone who’s gotten a device ban for DDOSing, this person even provides a booting pannel(bot net) to the individual mentioned in my OP for a set $ amount. Person has since then gotten a new Xbox and ip address and has them started back up from scratch. I just want to know how and what the appropriate course of action I can take as far as reporting this individual because I know Microsoft can and has handled these sorts of issues before. Maybe this sort of thing gets reported often but many instances are either mis informed false positives where someone makes an incorrect assumption for a technical issue on their own connection so it can then be difficult for Microsoft to diagnose true malicious intent regarding these sort of claims. For myself though, I’m 1000% positive what I am claiming is factual and not just some instance of fear based false speculation. What I’m really asking is if there’s a better way of getting this checked out and investigated by the enforcement team in order to take appropriate action towards these bad actor/s that are damaging to the online gaming community. Is there a phone number to call, a form that I can fill out, or if it is reporting said individual, how and what fields should I be reporting under? What type of information would be appropriate to leave on the report etc. and to address the whole contacting my ISP, I have done this in the past and all I was left with was to “go buy a new router and inform the authorities.” In my honest opinion, These type of malicious people do not belong on Xbox’s platform and Microsoft should put more resources into mitigating these sorts of activities.
