Dead or Not in Use Gametags on LIVE

It's pretty common since you're not the owner of that account. It would be pretty bad for support to just give out information about everyone's account like that to just anybody. So they are doing their job.

Although, the problem is a lack of information of there part, apparently when I asked the rep how long has it been closed she cant even tell. They have no access to account and can even see how long its been inactive. Then to top it off she says if the
acct was suspended the name will never be reactivated, I ask her can she tell me that, she says that she cannot access that information! What the hell is support good for ?? There are no answers and I'm stuck in limbo.

Any inactive account is closed automatically after 5 years. As others stated it could be a gamer tag tied to an active Microsoft account, for example this profile is my work profile don't do much with the gamer tag. As long as I am logging in with it on
anything Microsoft it stays active. There is nothing support can do to get a gamer tag that is why you were told there nothing they can do. Microsoft has released gamer tags once in the lifetime of Xbox. So its safe to say it may be a long while before they
do another release.

As this post has been answered by many I will be locking the thread. In short you will have to wait until the 5 year period. Or use the new system in place and have a few numbers on the end. You can view the

it takes more than 2 years before they recycle and the gamertag returns available. Starting august 30th inactive account will be closed and this may mean that the gamertag returns available to claim.In addition, the new gamertag system that is being
implemented allows you to have a similar gamertag to the one you want.

Thanks for that info where did you find that date ? As I will be scanning to claim the name on that day ASAP, although we shall see if name gets recirculated. Also why wouldn't xbox support make mention of this to me when on the phone?

Maybe you could find a solution within the new Gamertag update.

New Xbox players or players who want to change are allowed to register a gamertag of their choice, up to 12 characters. If it’s already taken by someone else, we will assign a suffix with numbers
to differentiate you from other people with the same name. We will also auto-format the gamertag to show the suffix subtly in a different font so focus will be on the name you chose but the suffix will always be shown. If you want to change your gamertag using
these updates, your first change is free, but every subsequent change will cost the same amount we currently charge for a gamertag change ($9.99 in the U.S.).

Thanks but unfortunately ive tried this way it doesn't work they just want to add numbers to the name. When the simple name it self remains not connected to a active account. While and long standing paying customer needs that name Microsoft does nothing to
help. Makes no sense....
