It's easy to take a dip in the shallow end but it's a long way to the deep end.

The Tutorial in "Training" that explains how the game is played has 41 Chapters.

That's 41 sets of lessons to go through and master.

That's before you look at the combo tutorials and even if you managed to complete all of that it's still up to you to string everything together to be successful against other players.

 

It is a lot easier to be good at KI. DoA is much more tactical in my opinion.

The whole critical hits, strikes, and so fourth really put my head into a spin.

This is another 1 of those games that seems simple on the surface but it really isn't. The key difference between this game and KI, I think, is the accessibility. DoA5 is easily accessible. Anyone can jump in, mash buttons like crazy, and be moderately successful.
KI, on the other hand, although easier to learn in the long run, is harder to get into because it will not hold your hand in the beginning. If you try to mash buttons in it, you'll drop combos and won't be able to cash out damage and you will constantly have
those combos broken or countered by your opponent.

We also have to remember that we're comparing a 2D fighter vs. a 3D fighter, which are 2 very different worlds.

 

GG, is this honestly the first time you've played DoA? And are you going to get at least the $39 version once the Online is working properly?

 

You can bash buttons in DOA but you will never fluke a win against an experienced good player by doing so.

 

I've played every DoA ever made and it has always been simple in my eyes. The most complicated thing I've ever seen in the series was the counter-system and even that wasn't all that complicated or hard. You just had to know how to read and anticipate your
opponent.

Then again, the DoA series was never a series I played online too often like I do with other fighting games, so that's probably working against me.

 

Well it looks like most of the costumes are sorted now.

There are a few stragglers but if you had the Costumes in DOA 5U you can go to the marketplace and if you check content individually, with the exception of Kokoro's Pop Idol costume (and the stuff that hasn't been released yet) it's all there.

 

That is a ton of outfits. Diversity is good though. However, I really do not see a bump up in graphic fidelity

 

@GA, my opinion is quite the opposite. I think it is much easier to mash buttons in KI and be successful than it is in DoA.

The difference between "DOA 5U" on the 360 and "DOA 5: Last Round" on the ONE is as big as the difference between "Diablo III" on the 360 and "Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition" on the ONE.

It's very sharp and very fast.

You really should be seeing a difference you should be looking into why that is.

 

@Azrael There is no difference in the graphical fidelity of the game from last gen to this gen.

@GG This game is far more complex than KI. Have you learned about crushes yet. I'm sure the first time someone crushes your seemingly invincible wake up kick you will be like WHAT????!!!!! I know I was at least. Fighting for positioning before rounds on
certain stages is key too.

Still a solid game. Love the stage where people sore sky high after getting knocked off the platform and hitting the exploding ground.

Guess its a good thing I disabled throw downs from the get go as my game has yet to freeze.

Currently learning Marie Rose if anyone wants to spar. Thank god for the Ninja Clan costume pack as all her costumes made me varying degrees of uncomfortable...

The 360 and the ONE are still both plugged into the same TV and the difference is very easy to see.
