Dead or Alive 5 Gets Over Five Million Downloads; Free Costume for PS4 and Xbox One Coming

Today Koei Tecmo announced with a press release that the basic free version of its latest fighting game Dead or Alive 5 has reached five million downloads worldwide counting Last Round and Ultimate.

In order to celebrate, users (whether they’re using the retail version or the free one) will get a free costume for Ayane and Kasumi designed by Mangaka Tamiki Wakaki, well known for The World God Only Knows.

Do you have a copy of "Dead Or Alive 5" or "Dead Or Alive 5: Ultimate"?



I'm pretty sure the former had an "online pass".



I had "Dead Or Alive 5" and then I bought "Dead Or Alive 5: Ultimate". All my costumes bought for DOA 5 are there in DOA 5U. Does anyone know if you bought DOA 5U only if they want an online pass off you?

Before releasing "Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate" the guys at Tecmo released "Dead Or Alive 5".



This game needed an online pass to allow you to play online against other people.



Also you could buy costumes for your characters as they were released.



Now when Tecmo announced they were releasing "Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate" people who had already bought "Dead Or Alive 5" said "Hey... wait a minute... what about all the stuff I bought for regular "Dead Or Alive 5"... are we going to lose it"?



Tecmo said "Don't worry, the stuff you bought for "Dead Or Alive 5" carries over to "Dead Or Alive 5: Ultimate".



I am wondering if the reason you don't have access to the full menu is because they want you to buy an Online Pass.



I bought an Online Pass for the original "Dead Or Alive 5" and have never been asked for one for "Ultimate" but that may be because I already bought it for the original DOA 5.



Does that make more sense?



Does it want you to buy an online pass?

 

Amazing game that has been kind of killed by the ridiculous "Mobile Phone App Store" model for all the costume content.

This game now probably has more DCL than "Evolve", "Guitar Hero" and "Rockband" combined.

I used to be a sucker for the costumes but not even I can be bothered to throw £500.00 to get all the suits and boots this time around.

The game is wonderful and probably the most technically accomplished fighter on the market but the model of dropping a 1000 piece jigsaw on the floor and then offering to let people pay to pick up the pieces.

Still you don't need the costumes to enjoy the game.

It would be nice if they actually released more fighters as complete games like they did for the most part with "Mortal Kombat".

I actually agree with that.

 

Is this game free to play?

 

You can download the Core Fighters for free and get online and play multiplayer for free.

That gives you like Kasumi, Ayane, Ryu Hayabusa and Hayate.

You can play arcade, online and training.

From this you can figure out if you like the game or not. If you do then consider buying "Ultimate" which will give you Story Mode and all the other characters.

As mentioned above it's a fantastic game that is hindered by the way they make content available for you.

You can unlock a few Costumes by simply playing but if you want them all you'll be a couple of hundred Euros out of pocket.

I had fun with Dead Or Alive 3 (Original Xbox) and Dead Or Alive 4 (Xbox 360), but let me warn you now that DOA games are very hard even on the easiest difficulty setting!

" Alpha 152 " is one the most broken and over powered bosses that I have ever had the displeasure to fight.

I thought that " Omega " (the boss from Dead Or Alive 3) was a cheap cheating turd face until I fought " Alpah 152 ".

" Alpha 152 " would obliterate " Omega " with ease if they ever fought each other LOL

I would have picked-up Dead Or Alive 5 on the Xbox 360, but then I heard that " Alpha 152 " was back.

I simply replied with the following comment...

" I don't think so, forget this game! "

Don't be put off by Lei Fang as their thoughts on "DOA 5" are inaccurate.

They are founded in "DOA 4" when Itagaki-san was still at the head of Team Ninja.

He liked to have a reputation for being a bit 'hardcore' so "DOA 4" was created without an 'easy' difficulty setting.

The AI were difficult if you didn't mix your moves up and spamming the same move over and over again was a recipe for a guaranteed counter from the a.i. opponent.

Rather amusingly in "DOA 4" Alpha-152 could be defeated by simply spamming the "Y" button with any character, 75% of the time.

"DOA 5" has around 10 difficulty settings.

You can make the game as easy or as hard as you want making it great fun to play offline or on.

I know that mixing things up and learning how to counter is how to survive in Dead Or Alive 3 and Dead Or Alive 4.

I was pretty good at the game when they (the DOA games) were the only games that I was playing LOL

Also, I am well aware of Lei Fang's (surprise, she is my favorite character) cheese move to use against those cheap cheating turd faces (Omega and Alpha 152) that are called bosses LOL

OK so I bought DOA5 Last Round off Amazon last week for £11, have I been a bit foolish and could have downloaded the game for free? Or does the disc version come with more than the free download, in which case I can breath a sigh of relief?

As per my post above the Free version comes with 4 characters. There are many more than that. You now have them all as well as story mode.
