de-register old account on xbox 360?

Hey there, got a question about transferring ownership of an xbox. I searched around on the help forums a little bit but did not find a direct answer to my question.

I bought a 360 about five years ago and now I want to give it to a friend of mine. I downloaded and ran this app called HDD Eraser (claims to wipe the drive clean) and then gave him the console. Now when he tries to register his Microsoft Live account
on it, he gets a message saying that his account is already registered to another device, but he knows that he's never registered a 360 with that account. I had not done anything to remove my account from the box before running the wiper program, I figured
wiping the drive would be enough to start fresh for him.

My question, is it possible that the xbox is still registered to my account, and that I have to deactivate my account for that box's serial number? If that is the case, what can I do to fix it? Is there a factory reset option that would work?

Not possible to register a xbox one controller

I want to register my xbox one controller to get support for it.

the left analog stick is not working correctly.

I bought it from amazon 6 month ago.

The Xbox console cannot be registered via serial number as it is used. Your friend should just go ahead and load his gamertag onto it and start player.

As for the hard drive eraser, as that is a third party program there are no guarantees that it has irreparably harmed the drive. If he cannot use the drive he may need to purchase a new one.

 

You should /never/ use a 3rd party app to erase the content on the xbox hdd, the built in format does the job sufficiently, now that that's out of the way, He should just have to jump on the xbox and get to playing....

UNLESS his old xbox was an entertainment for all system, and his account was tied to that and it is now in payment decline, it happens quite often to people who purchase those systems, have him call Support at 1-800-4my-xbox or set up a click 2 call on
support.xbox.com/.../contact-us

The agent he speaks with should be able to help him figure out what's going on with his account and get it sorted out.

 

The hdd still seems useable, as we were able to make a local save of Lego Indiana Jones and re-load it. It will be a few days before I see him again to try to get this closed out but the click to call sounds like it will be the best thing to do.
