  1. DDos attacks

Please stop advising people to call their ISP providers after DDos attacks. You know that there is nothing that they can do about it. I was attacked and was told by both Microsoft and Time Warner that basically, nothing can be done. The technician I spoke
with from TWC told me that he receives several calls a day regarding DDos attacks over Xbox Live. You would need the offenders ip address AND they would have to be customers of TWC, and I would have to subpoena them for the information.

What I suggest seeing as there has been an increase in these attacks is to put something in place to catch and prosecute offenders. I know some mod will post about "reporting" and "avoiding". Done that. I would like to actually KNOW that some form of punishment
was handed down. Not only did he threaten and carry out the threat, but this idiot sent me a message saying so. Yet there is nothing I can do and I have no reason to belive that any punishment is being handed down to the culprit.

Your policy of not being able to name offenders should be revised.

    :)

Ah sorry didn't realise. Just wanted to warn others about this player - he ruined my whole network, and my afternoon. Thanks again.

Maybe you need to change your ISP.

An attack on your internet connection is illegal, your ISP is legally required to investigate it.

Its up to them to find the offenders ISP and deal with it.

If your ISP won`t do it,or say they can`t, they don`t deserve your custom.

[/quote]I disagree. I work at an ISP and I can tell you that we deal with DoS attacks. If Time Warner can't do anything (more than likely won't) then it's time to shop for another ISP like OWEN stated. There is nothing that MS can do about it. DoS attacks
happen outside of XBL. MS has no say so over what goes on over the internet, only over their services.

As for the policy for naming and shaming, it needs to stay as is. I can sit here and make posts that says, "PHILLYMIKE215 is a cheater and deserves to be banned." Who can truly dispute that and show evidence to the contrary? No one besides MS. That's why
naming and shaming is not allowed. The innocent as well as the guilty would be called out, and that isn't right.

Your ISP can release a new ip adress to you while being Dos attacked so the atttack will stop.

Is there any process to report a "boot" to any authorities?

"Boots" are done via Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, and are illegal in basically all countries.

Therefore the process to report such an DDoS attack would be to contact your ISP, as they can check their logfiles about the attack.

Then contact your local police and have them work with the ISP to determine the source of the DDoS attack and take the necessary steps.

    Also check the
official FAQ about DDoS attacks here

do you even know what DDOS is?

first of all if it was a DDOS attack then you should be complaining at your ISP since your service of internet was denied

Microsoft cant do anything about that neither can Xbox support...

go to your ISP file a complaint and make sure they start a investigation

    Ddos attacks

Do a five minute modem-off sequential power cycle and your ISP should issue you a new IP addresse. Than any DoS attack will go into the ǽther.
