DDoS attacks need to be addressed.

I pay for xbox live service. I also pay for my own ISP service. When I play Call of Duty on Xbox Live, especially Call of duty black ops 2 in League Play, I am constantly a victim of DDoS attacks and am always getting kicked offline by some punk kids who
    can use a program.

Not only is this a pain in the [Mod Removed] but also highly illegal. I have yet to see Xbox support do anything about this issue, and its getting EXTREMELY ridiculous. Something needs to be done...

    :)

  2. This "Hacker"

Ip flooding and DDos attacks are becoming commonplace in XBL which is a serious problem that NEEDS to be addressed by microsoft themselves. This corny advice given by "Ambassadors" is just not cutting it. The official statement posted here by Microsoft is
pathetic also. There is a hole/exploit somewhere in the microsoft software that needs to be fixed!!!

Calling out gamertags is not allowed on the forums.

If you have reported this person they will be investigated but it does take time.

If they are kicking you offline (ddos attack) then you need to contact your isp as that is down to them to fix.

Ddos attacks are done via your broadband/internet,not xbox live.

More info on dealing with ddos attacks can be found here

    Hey aG,

If you are receiving DDoS attacks, please contact your local ISP and local police force. This is the only way that we can help. Microsoft cannot help with personal DDoS attacks.

I have done this several times man. They just kind of laugh it off. They may not be able to do anything about personal DDoS attacks as far as "after the fact" once it has already happened, but maybe help the situation.

What I mean by this is, make it harder for other users to even see your IP address. Maybe hide them? Dedicated servers where this cant happen? VPN's set up for those type of competitive game types. IDK, something? It's just becoming way to common in the
CONSOLE gaming community. Never happens on PC games.

    Hello aG I VeXx,

Unfortunately, Xbox Support cannot help you; DoS and DDoS attacks do not happen within the Xbox Live service, instead they come directly from the attacker through external means.

For more information about DoS and DDoS attacks, visit this

That's not ENTIRELY true. Yes, the attack takes place with external applications but how did they even come across my IP address? Why were they able to see it? Why is it so easy for this to be done once I join a server on XBL?

What I'm saying is Yes, you are right, the attack takes place outside of xbox live, BUT xbox live gives them the ability to do so. Something needs to be done to protect the players and xbox live subscribers from such attacks.

Bottom line is this: The people that are delivering these attacks are only getting the IP addresses from the Xbox Live service. Xbox needs to do something to protect its users from such attacks.

DDoS attacks need to be addressed.

Within the link that I gave you, it says that Xbox Live cannot do anything to prevent DoS or DDos attacks, only the ISP can. DoS and DDoS attacks are not easy to predict. Unfortunately, I don't think that the players IP addresses can be masked either.

Again, I'm not asking that they do anything about the ATTACK. What I am asking them to do is to figure out how to PREVENT the attack. It is absolutely unacceptable to say "nothing we can do, sorry".

Masking the IP address is very attainable, they just have to put in the work. If you are okay with the concept of "we choose not to do anything about it because we don't want to spend the money on it" then I suppose that is your opinion.

For some reason you have it to believed that there is nothing they can do to prevent such acts just because they say they cant. FIX IT. FIGURE IT OUT. I can't start calling my ISP every single day because Xbox Live lacks the feature of making my IP address
unattainable by other users, its a privacy issue, one that Xbox needs to fix.

If you do not agree and want to accept the fact that they choose to do nothing then go ahead sir, I just find it unacceptable. I know things can be done. Time to make someone do something about it.

Again, I realize they cant do anything to STOP the attacks, but they could make it WAY harder to even begin to attack me. Yes, they could. Keyword is could

DDoS attacks are targeted at the end-user's IP address. This means, Microsoft can't do ANYTHING to stop with DDoS attacks against you, only on their infrastructure. With this being said, you can contact your ISP and local police force and report the person
DDoSing you for internet crimes. Xbox LIVE can't mask IP addresses either. An IP can only be masked if it's on the local network and local network only. Even knowing your home IP's are 192.168.xxx.xxx, the IP on your Xbox is completely different and Microsoft
cannot do anything to mask it.
