Day one update

Do you still need internet for the first time setup of the xbox one? Just checking since by now I assume the consoles would be shipping with a later firmware and previous updates already on them. Thanks!

Yes you can. Microsoft has in the past made ALL updates for Original Xbox and Xbox 360 available the same day through Microsoft.com as it was also on Xbox Live. It is only logical to believe that they will do the same this generation.

Not necessarily. If you can download the xbox one update to a flash drive, and then plug it into the console to download the file, you wont need internet. Other then that though, you will need internet for the console

 

Yeah, I saw some sites with mirrors to the original day one update, which was originally supposed to let you do it offline, but microsoft took all that stuff off their website. Can you still download other updates to flash drives?

 

You should be able to download the update from this:

support.xbox.com/.../offline-system-update-diagnostic-tool

 

You will want to download the OSUDT1 file.
