  1. Day one game updates

I was thinking that I would be a good idea to put updates in the dlc area too, so I could download the update for the game before I got it and when I went to the store and picked it up I could pop it in, download the disc real quick and play. This is a better
idea for me because my internet isn't the best, but at the same time it isn't terrible. I really think this would be helpful because it takes me a couple hours to download the big updates. I'm really looking forward to playing Fallout and I really don't want
to wait until the day after it was released to play it because of my internet being slow.

    :)

Those updates are for the 360, the latest update has been and gone on the 360. You can't get an update for the Xbox one on day one via a USB, but probably in the future unless MS has stated it already, which they haven't. The
Xbox One will need to be connected to the internet only once to activate its offline features.

But, taking a deep breath, it would be a good idea too for them to post something on Xbox.com although I don't see an issue in downloading it on day one.

Yes you can. Microsoft has in the past made ALL updates for Original Xbox and Xbox 360 available the same day through Microsoft.com as it was also on Xbox Live. It is only logical to believe that they will do the same this generation.

I would think this would be more down to the developers releasing the patch for pre download though.

That isn't a bad idea. All you would have to wait for is the game to install.

It is a good idea.Personally I don't have a problem with the way it is but can see how it would be useful to people with slower broadband speeds.

    It is a good idea.

Going slightly off track. I have to wonder, once Microsoft u-turned on DRM, 24 sign in's etc they basically said, gamers would only need to connect their consoles on launch to Xbox Live to do the day one update and after that ( if they chose not to ) wouldn't
    need to connect ever again.

I wonder how gamers would/are getting on with games if they haven't connected since launch?

Agreed, not a bad idea at all OP. I dont mind Day one patches ,TBH When a game doesnt get a patch at all something is very suspect. However what I do mind is a 7 gig day one patch. Seems like anytime I purchase a game I have a long install time with a long
download patch install. Really kills the excitement ,you know. However, like I said I prefer a patch over none at all, its a double blade for sure.

What Id liked to know is how can I play a game before the patch is finished installing, IE gets to %70 then you can play mid install ? black magic I tell you.

  10. @Lofty, it seems to me that there were a few complaint threads awhile back on this subject.

One that I recall was about the fact that console updates used to be included on game discs along with the game... for the 360. But they aren't included for the Xbox One. Therefore, there are certain games (I'd guess most, if not all) that won't be playable
if they were produced after a certain console update, unless the console has that update... which isn't on the disc.

You can see the issue... console update via internet required to play any game after said update was released. Although I guess there is a way to update your console via a DL to a flash drive, but I'm not sure how that works, or even if it does, for just
    a standard update.

    @ Blue

Even though I don't really understand how it all works but originally Xbox One was designed to be an always online console. Then came the backlash and Microsoft done the U-turn so I'd guess there was a lot involved to get it to run/play offline. I just think
Microsoft probably shouldn't have said what they did ... "You would only need to connect it once on launch" ... lol

Obviously we all know why they u-turned but I'd love to know where Xbox One would have been today if they stuck to their original plans but that's anyone's guess Day one game updates :)
